Choosing a driving school: Don't blindly trust verbal promises
Behind the growing sales of automobiles, there are an increasing number of citizens who are first-time drivers. Driving training is the most critical part of this process. However, it's worth noting for prospective car owners that data from relevant departments in Foshan indicates choosing a competent driving school is becoming increasingly important for learners.
Last Friday, the Foshan Administration for Industry and Commerce released a statistical analysis of the citywide 12315 work in 2011. The data showed that disputes related to driving training have become a new hotspot for consumer complaints. Throughout the entire year of 2011, the Foshan municipal industrial and commercial system handled a total of 151 training-related complaints, an increase of 84% compared to the previous year. Among these, 105 were related to driving training, accounting for 69.5% of all training-related complaints.
Meanwhile, journalists found that on the internet, there are numerous posts from Foshan residents over the past two years expressing dissatisfaction and lodging complaints against driving schools on institutional websites. Some individual cases have even garnered attention from news media. Common issues raised include unreasonable arrangements by driving schools and poor attitudes from instructors.
In fact, regarding the issue of "unreasonable teaching arrangements," government departments are unable to make rigid arrangements. A response from the Shunde District Environmental Transport and Urban Administration Bureau in 2010 was quite representative: a student requested that the bureau use administrative power to change the teaching schedule of a certain driving school, but the bureau stated: "We cannot rigidly stipulate the teaching arrangements of driving schools; specific learning times must be agreed upon between students and the driving schools. However, we have already required driving schools to ensure that students participate in sufficient study hours."
On the other hand, netizens also have misconceptions about driving schools. In January this year, a netizen complained on the Foshan Network Spokesperson platform about a certain driving school in Gaoming "causing severe retakes for profit." In response, the Public Security Bureau stated that the low pass rate for the "nine choose three" exam was due to the increased difficulty of the test. Investigations into the complaint that招生 points aim for multiple student retakes to earn greater profits revealed that such situations do not exist. The pass rate for all students in the Foshan region is only around 30%. On the other hand, if encountering excessively high fees, driving school students can gather factual evidence and file real-name reports.
Miss Huang, a citizen nearing the completion of her training at a driving school in Chancheng District, told reporters that she had heard negative reviews about some driving schools during her training period but was very satisfied with her own driving school. "I've exchanged views with several classmates, and the safest method is to get introductions from those who have already completed their lessons. Relying solely on advertisements or verbal promises may not lead to satisfactory results," she said.
