He tracked the thief for a hundred meters and roared loudly just as the thief was about to steal. The thief failed to steal and instead stabbed at him with a knife. In the ensuing struggle, Ruan sustained a knife wound but after treating his wound at the hospital, he returned home to buy groceries, cook, and care for his sick wife. Yesterday, the official website of the Provincial Procuratorate published an article praising his bravery.
Yesterday afternoon, a reporter visited Ruan Fuping's home on Yanjiang Avenue in Kou District. He was chatting with his sick wife. When asked about the incident a few days ago when he "shouted" down the thief, Ruan smiled and said: It's not a big deal, I am a procuratorial cadre, and when I encounter such incidents, I have to take action.
On the afternoon of February 3, Ruan Fuping got off the bus at the Liuduqiao station in Hankou and was heading to Minsheng Road to handle some affairs. On the way, he noticed a young man in his twenties with a small mustache closely following two girls, trying to reach into one girl’s backpack.
With his professional sensitivity, Ruan Fuping guessed that the man with the mustache intended to steal the bag, so he followed behind to observe. Although there were people nearby who also looked at them with surprise, no one dared to step forward.
After following for about a hundred meters, the man with the mustache managed to pull out a wallet with his right hand. Ruan Fuping shouted loudly: “Thief!” Startled, the man dropped the wallet back into the bag. The girl turned around, checked that nothing was missing, and quickly left.
Failing to steal, the man with the mustache became angry, cursed, and rushed towards Ruan Fuping. His accomplice also came to help. Ruan grabbed the man's left hand, intending to send him to the public security authorities. However, the man pulled out a sharp knife from his right hand and stabbed Ruan Fuping in the back before fleeing with his accomplice.
Upon examination at the hospital, it was found that Ruan Fuping had a 5-centimeter-long wound on his left shoulder blade. Blood soaked his clothes, and his coat, sweater, and an undershirt were all pierced by the knife.
Ruan Fuping, who has a military background, was a deputy division-level procurator of the Kou District Procuratorate before retiring.
In the eyes of his colleagues and neighbors, Ruan Fuping is always cheerful, highly righteous, and loves to meddle in "idle" matters. Whenever he sees someone in trouble, he always offers help. However, his own family lives in hardship; his wife suffers from a serious illness and relies on his daily care. Both of their daughters lack formal jobs and work temporary jobs to make a living.
