Xinhua News Agency, Huangshi (reporter Wanjinghuang of Dongchu Evening News) -- Xiaogang, a 10-year-old boy from Jinhu Street in Daye City, suffering from rhinitis, filled a glass bottle with gunpowder to make a "homemade bomb." When the "bomb" was lit, it exploded and injured several children who were watching. One of the victims had multiple injuries on his leg, and on December 26, 2008, a piece of glass about 4 centimeters long pierced his back. Yesterday, the victim's family said that if this matter is not handled properly, they will hold Xiaogang's parents accountable.

According to Mr. Hu, the father of one of the victims, at around 12 noon on the 1st, the 10-year-old Xiaogang took some unspent firecrackers, peeled them open, removed the gunpowder, poured it into a glass bottle, and lit it. At the time, his son, Hu Jie, was playing nearby and was unexpectedly injured by the explosion.

The attending doctor of the victim stated that when Hu Jie was brought to the hospital, there were obvious wounds on his thigh, with blood flowing continuously. Some glass shards were embedded in the wounds, and the largest piece in the back wound was about three to four centimeters long.

Mr. Hu also mentioned that besides his son Hu Jie, another 11-year-old child named Xiao Luo was also injured and was sent to the People's Hospital of Huangshi for treatment. Xiao Luo suffered facial injuries, with his face covered in fine "blood spots" caused by the flying sand.

"I heard a loud explosion, and soon after, my son came running home covered in blood, which scared me to death..." Xiao Luo's mother said that her son's face was injured, and his left ear was cut by a piece of glass.

"At the moment, I heard a loud explosion, and many grains of sand flew onto my face, causing a burning pain," said Xiao Luo lying in the hospital bed. Xiaogang from the same village placed a glass bottle full of gunpowder on a sand pile and claimed he made a big "thunderclap" to show everyone. At the time, he and four or five other children gathered around to watch, but before they could run far enough, the "thunderclap" exploded.

During the incident, Xiaogang, who made the homemade "bomb," was also severely injured and has been transferred to a hospital in Huangshi for treatment.
