Report: A farmer from Shangluo in his 30s, while building a new house, accidentally fell from a height. His family proactively proposed organ donation, which ultimately saved two uremic patients and one patient with liver failure.

This year, Mr. Zhao, a 30-something farmer from Shangluo, Shaanxi Province, unfortunately fell from a height while constructing a new house on the morning of December 19th. Despite all-out rescue efforts, he remained unconscious. The family had previously seen the December 18th report in this newspaper titled "The First Case of Organ Donation Transplantation by a Shaanxi Resident Completed at Jiaotong University First Affiliated Hospital," so after the doctor declared Mr. Zhao brain-dead, they voluntarily proposed the idea of organ donation.

At 5 PM that day, Mr. Zhao's organs were transported to Xi'an Jiaotong University First Affiliated Hospital. Subsequently, after more than three hours of intense surgery, Mr. Zhao's organs were successfully transplanted into three critically ill patients.

Around 8 PM on December 19th, at Xi'an Jiaotong University First Affiliated Hospital, three surgeries were simultaneously and intensely underway. The deceased Mr. Zhao's organs were transplanted into two uremic patients and one patient with liver failure.

Yesterday, reporters met Mrs. Zhang, the wife of the recipient Mr. Xue, and Mr. Xue's mother, Grandma Xue. Grandma Xue told reporters that her son, who is only 48 years old, is a railway employee from Hanzhong. He has been suffering from uremia for over three years. Previously, he underwent dialysis continuously, and his physical condition progressively worsened. Fortunately, this kind-hearted person donated an organ, saving her son.

Mrs. Zhang informed reporters that doctors said transplanting a healthy kidney was the sole surgical option to save her husband's life. However, for three years, due to the lack of kidney donors, they had no choice but to keep waiting, often feeling hopeless. This time, thanks to the good-hearted Mr. Zhao donating a kidney, their entire family deeply appreciates Mr. Zhao and his family for donating the organ.

"These consecutive two cases of organ donation, as a doctor, I feel hopeful," said Professor Xue Wujun, Dean of the Kidney Disease Hospital at Jiaotong University First Affiliated Hospital. The two donors' contributions were only four days apart, indicating that many people have gradually shifted their awareness and now recognize the importance of organ donation.

Professor Xue Wujun introduced that currently, there are numerous patients requiring organ transplants, but there is a significant shortage of donors. Many patients can only anxiously wait because no one is willing to donate organs; some end up losing their lives without receiving a transplantable organ. As a doctor, this situation feels both regrettable and helpless. Up to now, Mr. Zhao is the third organ donor in Shaanxi Province and the second Shaanxi resident to donate organs.
