Morning Post News - In the future, Shanghai citizens will have to pay an additional "designated home appliance repair fee" if they need to repair their home appliances during specific times. This fee will only be charged on national holidays (excluding regular weekends), with a standard charge of an additional 50 to 80 yuan per service call. However, during implementation, this must be clearly priced and consumers must be informed in advance.

Several home appliance repair companies in Shanghai revealed that there are multiple considerations for adding this fee item, but the rising cost of the home appliance service industry and the difficulty of operation are the main reasons for introducing this fee. Some companies stated that during holidays, a large number of repair workers often need to be arranged for overtime work, but the actual repair business volume is not high, which can easily lead to serious corporate losses. Other companies proposed that they hope to guide consumers not to concentrate their repair reports during holidays by increasing fees.

Staff members of the Shanghai Electronic Product Repair Service Industry Association confirmed that they have indeed received price filing reports from some companies, but they are still under evaluation. Due to the current standards for home appliance service charges in Shanghai being self-determined by each service company, the reference basis is the "Shanghai Home Appliance Repair Price Market Reference Price" jointly formulated by three industry associations in Shanghai in 2002. Each repair company sets its own prices according to the different levels and situations of the enterprise, and files them with relevant industry associations. Association staff disclosed that it cannot be ruled out that some companies have already started charging this fee.
