The Tram Project is a classic team competition in the Beijing Outward Bound Company projects. Some people call this project "collective wooden clogs." In fact, the name "collective wooden clogs" makes it easier for everyone to quickly understand how this project works. After years of promotion and evolution, many similar projects have gradually evolved from this base. Among them, the "Dragon Emerges from the Sea" project stands out as one of the best. Although the significance of participating in these projects is the same, the impact they leave on participants is entirely different. The advantage of the "Dragon Emerges from the Sea" project lies in its strong operability - no large equipment is required, just a venue. In 2005, CCTV even used this project as part of a television challenge, which clearly demonstrates its potential for promotion.
The Tram Project is a challenge PK (Player vs Player) project between teams, and among all PK-style projects in outward bound training, it is relatively easy to operate. Here, I will briefly introduce the equipment and venue requirements for the collective wooden clogs project. The equipment requirements for collective wooden clogs are very strict. If two teams are competing, four long wooden boards with identical length, height, and width are needed. Then, a row of 3-centimeter-diameter holes must be drilled in the same position on each of the four boards. These holes are used to thread static ropes from safety gear for outward bound activities. If static ropes are unavailable, regular ropes with a diameter of about 1.5 centimeters can be used as substitutes. However, it is essential to ensure that the ropes have minimal stretch. Once the equipment is ready, each team divides into two groups, with each group receiving a pair of wooden clogs for practice and competition. The venue requirement for the tram competition is at least 30 meters in length, with an ideal location being a basketball court. Of course, the larger the area of the venue, the better, allowing participants to perform without any concerns.
The operation of the project is quite simple: each team selects 10-12 members, who then stand on the two wooden clogs and proceed forward. During the process, it is important to note that if someone falls off the wooden clogs for any reason, they should not attempt to get back on. When stepping down, try to cross over to the outside of the wooden clogs, as extending your foot underneath could easily lead to danger. The competition consists of three rounds, following a best-of-three format. Teams start together from the starting point, and success is achieved once the front of the wooden clogs crosses the finish line. In the first round, teammates can cheer from the side. In the second round, cheering is not allowed, but the participants on the wooden clogs can still shout slogans. In the third round, all team members are prohibited from making any sounds or gestures. At the event site, some teams perform well during practice and seem confident of victory, yet the actual competition results often come as a surprise. Is it due to underestimating the opponent or their superior performance? This requires a deep summary and guidance from the coach after the event.
