According to the introduction, during the first trial, witness Mr. Jiang testified that on the day of the incident, he heard someone say "If you don't give me 30,000 yuan, I will break your child's legs," and saw someone pulling Zhao Zhenping by the arm, dragging him into a car. In response, the Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People's Court believed that in the situation where only individual witnesses claimed that the defendant had made extreme statements and actions against Zhao Zhenping without other evidence for corroboration, the court was unable to make a determination. The cause of Zhao Zhenping's suicide did not have a legal causal relationship with the defendant's words and actions.

In the ruling, the Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People's Court expressed regret over Zhao Zhenping's choice to commit suicide under the pressures of real life, as well as deep sympathy for his parents who lost their son at middle age. They hoped that the parents could soon overcome their mental anguish and also called on society to pay attention to the growth issues of rural youth working in Beijing.

The case began when 18-year-old Zhao Zhenping hit an elderly woman named Ms. Wang while riding his bike. Unable to compensate for her 30,000 yuan medical expenses, he took his own life by poisoning. His parents believed that their son was driven to death by Ms. Wang's family and sued them, claiming 760,000 yuan in damages. After their initial lawsuit was dismissed, they appealed. Yesterday, it was announced that the Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People's Court upheld the original verdict, dismissing the appeal. Due to the deep regret over Zhao Zhenping's suicide, the court waived the second-instance case acceptance fee of 11,000 yuan for the deceased's parents.
