Zheng Fengtian: The 10 Great Benefits of Writing Blogs
Since the end of 2008, I have been writing blogs. Until now, it has been more than three years. Compared with those veteran bloggers, I can only consider myself as a new blogger. Initially, the motivation for writing blogs was actually very simple. I mainly wanted to establish an exchange platform to frequently express some of my views and opinions on my professional field. After persisting for more than three years, I've experienced all sorts of emotions - sour, spicy, bitter, and sweet. Summarizing everything, I realized that there are indeed many benefits to writing blogs. These mainly include:
Firstly, it exercises the brain. Just like a bicycle - if you don't ride it for a long time, it rusts and becomes unrideable. However, if you frequently ride it, it will become easier to use over time. Similarly, if the brain is not used often and nothing stimulates thinking, it will gradually become dull. Blogging cannot simply be about repeating what others say; it forces you to think actively while writing. Regular blogging is akin to practicing brain exercises daily. Month after month, it keeps your brain sharp and active, which holds significant value for someone who relies on their intellect to make a living.
Secondly, it records thoughts. Many of my friends have insightful opinions during private exchanges, but regrettably, these viewpoints can only be shared within small circles, leaving the outside world unaware. If these thoughts were written down in a blog, they could potentially contribute something meaningful to the world. I define my own blog as "social observation," meaning that I reflect on major societal issues and write down my opinions and perspectives, serving as a record of social observations.
Thirdly, it helps one understand the world. A blog is not a personal diary meant solely for oneself. Therefore, you must voice your opinions on issues that everyone cares about. Before doing so, you need to understand the ins and outs of the matter, both domestically and internationally, to ensure that your comments hit the mark. Thus, you cannot isolate yourself or remain ignorant; instead, you need to go out and understand society, analyze and think critically, then provide valuable ideas and insights that can help others.
Fourthly, it allows you to meet friends. Once a blog is published, interested friends often send emails or call to further discuss the topic. Over time, this leads to the acquaintance of a large number of friends with similar interests. Ideally, the comment section beneath blogs should also serve as a good platform for exchange. Unfortunately, currently, too much spam in blog comments drowns out the valuable content.
