Every year, many applicants rejected by the French embassy turn to applying for studying in Quebec instead. Quebec is the largest non-French Francophone region, with 6.8 million descendants of the French. There are 15 universities in Quebec that offer French-taught programs. Among international student applications concentrated in business-related management majors, they account for 26% of all applications, making it the most favored major by international students, as well as the one with the highest employment rate and salary.
According to statistics from Canada's Human Resources Department, the following eight types of majors have the most promising job prospects:
1. New Media: Online media is the fastest-growing area in the fields of communication and journalism. The new media major combines traditional journalism courses with digital media design and management.
2. Bioengineering: This major integrates biology and engineering. Bioengineering majors are often supplemented with business courses. Related fields such as bioinformatics and biomedical engineering also have good prospects.
3. Organic Agriculture: Some Canadian universities began adding organic agriculture majors in 2007.
4. Homeland Security: Canada’s Security Department offers quite a lot of scholarships and financial aids to students in this major, along with an 18-month degree-granting training course at the Homeland Security Defense Center.
5. Internet Commerce and Internet Marketing: This major focuses on commercial transactions conducted via the internet. It is usually offered at the graduate level in business schools, but some Canadian universities now provide undergraduate degrees.
6. Computer Game Design: Some colleges focus on game development, while others emphasize the artistic aspects of game design.
7. Forensic Accounting: This is the fastest-growing major in the accounting field. In addition to basic accounting skills, the curriculum requires students to have broader business knowledge. Most schools offer bachelor's degrees, while a few also offer master's degrees.
8. Human-Computer Interaction: This is generally a graduate-level course in computer science departments, but some schools have started offering undergraduate courses.
