Xinhua News Agency sports special telegraph - On September 9, Sang Lan's attorney, Hai Ming, held a press conference stating that Fred Green, the prosecutor of sex crime cases in New York’s Westchester County, had informed him by phone on August 8 that the prosecution refused to conduct a criminal investigation into the alleged sexual assault case involving Sang Lan. Defendant's lawyer, Mo Hu, stated: “(Sang Lan's report) was rejected because she has no evidence.”
Hai Ming announced during the press conference that Fred Green told him the focus of the investigation was whether this case constituted first-degree rape. If it did not, then the case would not be pursued.
Mo Hu, when interviewed by Xinhua News Agency correspondents, said: "The prosecution refused to open an investigation because Sang Lan could not provide any evidence." Mo Hu also mentioned: "From day one (of the report), I've been saying this case simply cannot stand."
On July 19, Sang Lan filed a report at a New York police station accusing Liu Guosheng and Xue Weisen of sexually assaulting her 13 years ago. She also accused Liu Guosheng and Xue Weisen of harming minors and individuals without self-care capabilities.
On June 2, a so-called "witness" named Lu Ping claimed he had personally witnessed Xue Weisen sexually assaulting Sang Lan 13 years ago. Later, Lu Ping added that he had been preserving evidence of the sexual assault for 13 years, and that the evidence weighed several kilograms.
Liu Guosheng is a Chinese-American from New York. For a long time, Sang Lan referred to him as her benefactor. In 1998, while participating in the Goodwill Games in New York, Sang Lan unfortunately fell and became paralyzed below the chest. After being discharged from the hospital, she recuperated at Liu Guosheng's home for several months. Xue Weisen is the biological son of Liu Guosheng's wife, Xie Xiaohong.
Accusing the father and son of her benefactor's family of sexually assaulting her when she was a 17-year-old paraplegic girl dealt a heavy blow to the Liu family. Additionally, Sang Lan accused Liu Guosheng and Xie Xiaohong of multiple crimes, including embezzling her funds, for which she sought compensation of hundreds of millions of US dollars.
Before and after filing the criminal complaint, Sang Lan and her agent, Huang Jian, frequently accused the Liu family father and son in the media, while the Liu family father and son maintained a low profile. However, not long after Sang Lan filed the criminal complaint, Xue Weisen, who holds Hong Kong resident status, returned to New York with his family for vacation. Liu Guosheng stated that the New York prosecution had never contacted them for any investigation from start to finish. (Editor-in-chief responsibility: Kuner)
