Giang Guangxin - When his wife went out to work, the 42-year-old man who married into the family committed the heinous act of raping his mother-in-law, who was over sixty years old, not once but twice. On February 12th, the Huize County Court in Yunnan Province made a first-instance ruling on this absurd case of incest, sentencing the defendant Li Wencong to seven years in prison.
Li Wencong, already in his forties and a resident of Gehemi Village Committee in Mines Town, Huize County, was the family's recruited son-in-law for the purpose of supporting Zhao and Lin's elderly care. After Lin’s husband, Old Man Zhao, passed away, only Lin remained, living a hard life with her daughter, her son-in-law, and two grandchildren. Due to their poor household conditions, the entire family shared one house.
To supplement the family income, his wife Xiao Zhao went out to work, leaving behind 61-year-old Lin, the robust middle-aged Li Wencong, and their two minor children. Li Wencong should have taken good care of the children and provided support to his mother-in-law. However, he instead harbored beastly intentions, taking advantage of their cohabitation situation. While the young children were sound asleep, he raped the elderly woman with white hair and threatened her not to tell anyone. Elder Lin, intimidated by her son-in-law's threats, dared not cry for help until much later when she finally confided in others.
Later, when this matter came to the attention of Xiao Zhao upon her return from working, she demanded a divorce. In an attempt to preserve their marriage, Li Wencong immediately chopped off his own index finger with a knife, swearing never to commit such an act again.
Due to fears of tarnishing the family name and causing negative impacts among neighbors and relatives, after some deliberation, the family decided to forgive Li Wencong, and subsequently, Xiao Zhao continued to work outside.
Unexpectedly, Li Wencong broke his promise and once again extended his sinful hands towards the experienced elder. On the evening of August 5th, 2010, while his mother-in-law Lin was sound asleep, Li Wencong raped her again. The next day at dawn, the elderly woman went to her younger brother's wife, crying and accusing Li Wencong of being "worse than an animal." Upon knowing this, the elder's nephew immediately reported it to the police, and Li Wencong was arrested that same day.
Following the prosecution brought by the Huize County Procuratorate, the court ruled that the defendant Li Wencong's actions of violating a woman's will and forcibly engaging in sexual relations constituted rape, and due to the恶劣 nature of the circumstances, he deserved a heavier punishment. Accordingly, the court made the aforementioned ruling.
