China's first digital live-action 3D youth musical film, "Happy Boy," is set to premiere nationwide on August 25. The film has gathered many ultra-popular contestants from the reality show "Happy Boy," aiming to become a new benchmark for domestic youth idol films. With real 3D effects, a musical genre, and such a large number of handsome men and beautiful women joining forces, these fresh elements rarely touched by domestic films are full of anticipation. Finally, I had the opportunity to watch the movie, but as the plot unfolded, my enthusiasm for watching the film gradually cooled down until the end of the movie. Apart from the theme of youth inspiration, it was really hard to find the highlights that the first real 3D musical youth film should have. I began to worry whether this "new landmark" was genuine or just an introductory work of a youth musical film.

"Happy Boy" Chases the 3D Trend, Cartoon Characters Grab Attention

With the huge box office success of 3D animated films like "Ice Age 3" and "Up," 3D movies have gradually swept across the globe. Even the 1997 "Titanic" is now being remade in 3D, planning to reignite its popularity. "Happy Boy" follows this trend, transforming the film into a 3D version, and it is also a live-action 3D stereo movie.

Notably, at the very beginning of the film, a sequence caught my attention: the cartoon characters representing the six main actors of the film danced rhythmically to the music, weaving back and forth, jumping around, seemingly right in front of me, almost within reach. Of course, this was all thanks to the 3D effect. Additionally, when Yu Haoming used a fishing rod to help Tang Xiao "fish" her wallet out of the water, the fishing rod was pointed directly at the audience, creating a vivid stereoscopic effect that made me want to lean back to avoid being hit. Some other impressive 3D effect scenes were shown during group dances and at the end of the film with "European landscapes." The sea of flowers and distant mountains created a clear sense of depth, making one feel as if they were there in person.

The two lead actors, Yu Haoming and Tang Xiao: The acting skills of "Happy Boy" and "Super Girl" contestants are still immature, and their professional abilities need further improvement.
