Sony: No More Recalls for Problem Batteries

After Dell and Apple announced the recall of Sony-made laptop batteries, Sony finally responded. The company's spokesperson, Clancy, stated externally: "Regarding Sony's Vaio laptops, we currently believe there is no need for a recall; furthermore, we have received confirmation from other manufacturers using our batteries that they also do not plan to take any recall actions... There are no signs indicating that similar accidents have occurred frequently enough to necessitate such actions." It is understood that Dell and Apple together will recall approximately 6 million batteries produced by Sony, and Sony will bear costs between $171 million to $258 million for this issue.
