Our reporter (communications officer Jin HuKui, Bai Lin, and journalist Shao Lan) - At around 10 PM on the evening of the 13th, patrol officers Meng Yong and Ke Lei from the 14th Brigade of the Provincial Highway Administration were on duty at the Shiyan West Toll Station when they discovered a bread van from Henan without license plates. After being stopped, the driver, dressed in monk robes, introduced himself as "Yong Zheng" and claimed that he and his two junior monks were preparing to go to Xi'an for a martial arts tour performance. He also stated that the license plate was stolen in Nanyang, Henan, and they hadn't had time to replace it yet.
Upon checking online, it was found that the vehicle's license plate number corresponded to a Geely sedan. Realizing they had been caught, the other two monks hastily took out two small "golden Buddhas" from a travel bag inside the car and attempted to give them to the patrol officers. During the exchange, the "golden Buddhas" fell to the ground, revealing several "spots" on their surface. It turned out that the golden Buddhas were made of lead with a layer of gold powder brushed on top, resembling a picture game involving small objects.
After interrogation, the driver Wang confessed: all four of them were farmers from Henan, masquerading as "Shaolin Temple Warrior Monks" and using fake golden Buddhas to swindle money across different places.
Yesterday, the highway patrol handed over the fake monks and a travel bag full of fake golden Buddhas to the Zhangwan District Public Security Bureau for further investigation and handling.
