According to the report by our newspaper (reporter Wang Qiushi), a seventy-year-old Zhang Lao Tai, suffering from uremia, claimed that she rarely sees her four daughters. She filed a lawsuit against three of her children within the country, demanding that they fulfill their obligation to support her. Yesterday, it was learned by the reporter that after mediation by the Miyun Court, the three siblings agreed to take on the duty of support.

Zhang Lao Tai, 73 years old, resides in Miyun County and has raised four daughters and one son, living all along with her youngest son. A year ago, she was diagnosed with uremia and needs to undergo kidney dialysis three times a week. She said that her eldest daughter and second daughter live in Japan, and each time they return to China, they give her some money; the third daughter lives in the city, and the fourth daughter lives in Miyun. Since being diagnosed with uremia, "the third daughter and fourth daughter have avoided her." Her savings have long been depleted, and all medical expenses and living costs are borne solely by her youngest son, who is an ordinary worker and finds it hard to bear the burden alone. Due to the complexity and length of foreign-related litigation procedures, Zhang Lao Tai sued her third daughter, fourth daughter, and youngest son, requesting that the three of them share her medical and living expenses. During the trial, the third daughter did not appear in court but hired a lawyer. Zhang Lao Tai remarked upon seeing this: "You have money to hire a lawyer, why don't you give this money to me?" The attorney representing the third daughter stated that she is willing to take on the responsibility of supporting her mother. The presiding judge contacted the eldest and second daughters via telephone, who both reside in Japan, and they both expressed willingness to take on the responsibility of support. Under the court's supervision, the three siblings reached a settlement agreement: each would pay 100 yuan per month as maintenance for their mother, and the medical expenses and nursing home costs would be shared equally among the three siblings, each bearing one-fifth of the total cost. Additionally, each sibling would take turns transporting their mother to the hospital for dialysis on a weekly basis.
