On August 17th, on the 11th floor of Beijing Yingu Valley Building, in the first hearing hall of the Patent Reexamination Board of the National Intellectual Property Office, Shi Bingqiang from the Intellectual Property and Standards Department of Philips was busily taking notes, nervously recording the key points of the statements made by all parties inside the hearing hall.
In this hall, the case being heard was Professor Zhang Ping from Peking University Law School and Intellectual Property School's request to determine the invalidity of a certain patent right of Philips DVD. This was a lawsuit with a good chance of winning, but Professor Zhang Ping could not hide his inner disappointment.
"The Chinese DVD industry has already collapsed," Professor Zhang Ping said painfully. She doesn't know who will be next.
The Chinese DVD brand has collapsed.
