Southern Daily News (Reporter/Yang Dazheng): It's like having gone through a nightmare - talking about his four years of being falsely accused of drug use, Zhanjiang man Lv Lifeng's face is filled with fear. For four years, Lv Lifeng has inexplicably carried the stigma of being a "drug user," often being detained. He went from being a millionaire to being destitute, and his wife left him with their children...

Lv Lifeng has always been puzzled as to why he, who has never seen drugs, would be mistakenly identified as a drug user? He filed a lawsuit against the police station, seeking one million yuan in compensation. The police investigation results confirmed that it was indeed "a mistake made by the police station." Despite the truth being clear, because the records need to be reported level by level to be deleted, the current Lv Lifeng still cannot clear his name, leaving him utterly helpless.

Being taken away multiple times when checking into hotels

According to Lv Lifeng, since October 2008, whenever he used his ID card to check into a hotel, he would be treated as a drug user and arrested by the police. He has been taken to police stations multiple times in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Heyuan, and Zhanjiang for urine tests to determine if he had used drugs.

He initially thought it was routine checks by the police at the hotel, but as the number of times he was taken away increased, each urine test result came back normal. Thus, he suspected that a business competitor was framing him, leading him to avoid staying in hotels, fearing someone might harm him.

One of the most memorable instances for Lv Lifeng was last year in Dongguan, where half an hour after checking into a hotel, he was taken from his room to the police station. After completing the urine test and leaving the police station late at night, caught in a heavy downpour without finding a taxi, he walked for over half an hour in the rain before finally finding a hotel, drenched from head to toe. "At the time, I felt extremely wronged, walking while shedding tears."

From the detailed information on drug users provided by Lv Lifeng, it was learned that in March 2007, he was listed as a drug user by the Taiping Police Station under the Mazhang District Public Security Bureau. On February 3, 2007, his urine test conducted by the Anti-Drug Team of the Mazhang District Public Security Bureau resulted in a negative (abnormal) outcome for morphine abuse.

"I have never touched drugs, let alone been arrested by the police," said an aggrieved Lv Lifeng. In an interview with the Southern Daily at a hotel in Zhanjiang Development Zone, he appeared very frightened when seeing the waitstaff. He mentioned that he has a significant psychological shadow regarding hotels.

Because he frequently travels on business, Lv Lifeng no longer dares to stay in hotels, opting instead to spend the night at foot massage parlors, bathhouses, or leisure centers that do not require ID registration. "During the Olympics, every venue checked IDs, so I just waited until dawn on the square."

Unjustly bearing a bad reputation leads to family disintegration

Before the incident, Lv Lifeng had been engaged in clothing and fabric businesses in Dongguan, operating several high-end brand clothing stores, relying on hard work to become a well-known boss locally.

Since being placed on the online wanted list as a drug user, as the number of times he was taken away by the police increased, his business partners and family gradually lost trust in him, mistakenly believing he was using drugs outside. "Sometimes, during negotiations with clients, I would be unjustly arrested by the police as a drug offender, causing the client to leave and the deal to fall through."

Tragically, even his parents and wife began to mistakenly believe he was a drug user. In early 2009, his wife left him with their son and daughter, divorcing him this year. His parents and siblings also distanced themselves from him, and friends were unwilling to associate with him.

After the divorce, already heavily in debt and with no way out, Lv Lifeng decided to abandon all his businesses and return to Zhanjiang to negotiate with the police station about this matter. He claimed that he had visited the Taiping police station multiple times, requesting the removal of the erroneous drug-related information. Additionally, Lv Lifeng also reported the issue to the Mazhang District Procuratorate. Out of desperation, he sued the Taiping police station, demanding they correct the error, publicly apologize, and compensate him with one million yuan.

Confirmed to be innocent, yet the record remains unerased

Yesterday morning, the responsible person at the Taiping police station of the Mazhang District Public Security Bureau stated that after police investigations, Lv Lifeng was indeed not a drug user, and there was no criminal record archive for him at the police station. His inclusion on the networked list of drug users was due to a "mistake" by the police station, but the person responsible for entering the data has already transferred elsewhere, and they are unclear about the specific reasons. It might have been caused by other drug users impersonating him when apprehended by the police station.

The responsible person further explained that this situation is not isolated and occurs across the country. After conducting investigations, the police station has agreed to delete the incorrect drug-related information on Lv Lifeng. Moreover, before the New Year, the police station had already reported this situation to the Mazhang District Public Security Bureau, requesting deletion.

"It's been four or five months already, why hasn't it been deleted?" Lv Lifeng questioned. The responsible person explained that the process of deleting records is complex, requiring step-by-step reporting up to the Ministry of Public Security, which has the authority to delete them. During this period, if the ID card is used, he will still be taken away by the police for investigation. "If you encounter such a situation, just call us, and we'll coordinate."

Lv Lifeng has visited the Taiping police station multiple times, urging them to expedite the process. The police station expressed that they are also helpless, and the only option is to wait. Lv stated that he can no longer wait, "I hope they can help me restore my good name soon, end the nightmare as soon as possible, and start a new life."
