Chutian Golden News, reported by intern Zhou Yixiong and trainee Shi Fengjuan: If your name is "Zhang San" or "Li Si", you might not be able to apply for a bank card simply because your name is too common and there are too many people with the same name. Miss Zhou, who has just started her job, experienced such a bizarre situation.

Yesterday, Miss Zhou informed that in early May, she successfully applied for a job at an advertising company near Huazhong University of Science and Technology. This company required employees to open a bank card at a bank near China University of Geosciences for salary disbursement. On April 4th last month, Miss Zhou went to the bank. After taking out her ID card to prepare for opening the card, a male staff member who served her looked at her ID card and said, "Your name is too common, there are too many people with the same name, so you cannot open a bank card." The staff member then suggested that she could open a passbook instead, which would not affect the salary disbursement. After hearing this, Miss Zhou couldn't believe it and repeatedly asked, "Does it mean I cannot open a bank card just because of my name?" After confirmation, Miss Zhou had no choice but to open a passbook. Miss Zhou mentioned that using a passbook to receive salary was inconvenient as she could neither use the ATM nor get timely information about her deposit.

Yesterday afternoon, when verifying at the bank, a responsible person of the bank found through the system that this matter indeed happened and explained that it might be due to the bank's recent system upgrade phase, where the original capacity was too small, causing this phenomenon. The reason why a passbook could be used was that the passbook uses the first letter of the name, which the system can identify. A question arose: "Since the ID card is unique and will not repeat, can the bank system not recognize it?" The responsible person stated that this issue needs to be answered by higher-level leadership. However, she mentioned that the bank once encountered a case where a Shanghai customer and a Wuhan customer had the same name, the same surname, and even the same ID number.

Subsequently, we interviewed Director Hu of the superior bank's general management department. Director Hu reiterated that the bank's system had been upgraded recently, causing some instability and leading to some loopholes. The situation like Miss Zhou's was a rare occurrence. He also mentioned that the bank's system upgrade would be completed by the end of the month, and such incidents would no longer occur at that time.

After coordination, Director Hu contacted Miss Zhou and assured her that he would help resolve the issue of opening a bank card for her in the near future.
