Chutian Metropolis Daily (Chen Yuan, correspondent Cai Min) - The heaviest pregnant woman in Wuhan weighed an astonishing 290 pounds at the time of delivery! At 1:30 PM yesterday, this expectant mother underwent a cesarean section at Tongji Hospital and gave birth to a healthy baby boy weighing 7 pounds and 4 ounces. "In my 27 years of medical practice, this is the heaviest pregnant woman I have encountered," said Professor Feng Ling, who was responsible for performing the surgery.

The expectant mother, Ms. Yin, is a 26-year-old resident of Jianghan District's National Road in Wuhan and works as an individual entrepreneur. Standing at 1.68 meters tall, she weighed 240 pounds even before becoming pregnant.

Her husband, Mr. Wang, said that after his wife graduated from vocational school, she stopped working and spent her days at home surfing the internet while snacking constantly, causing her weight to rapidly increase, reaching up to 280 pounds at its peak. They got married early last year, but unfortunately, his wife experienced an accidental miscarriage during the third month of pregnancy last July. During subsequent hospital examinations, they discovered that she suffered from diabetes. In November of last year, his wife became pregnant again. With the experience from the previous incident, they were extra cautious. His wife not only took Chinese herbal medicine for three months to maintain the pregnancy but also controlled her blood sugar and diet under the guidance of doctors. A week ago, his wife was diagnosed with gestational hypertension. Following the doctor’s advice, on August 21st, his wife was admitted to the obstetrics department of Tongji Hospital to prepare for a cesarean section. Yesterday, the surgery went smoothly, and both mother and child are safe.

Due to her extraordinary weight, the delivery and surgical process posed significant challenges. "It took several people just to lift the patient onto the operating table, and the subsequent anesthesia was quite difficult," Professor Feng explained. Because the patient had 10 centimeters of subcutaneous fat, it was challenging to perform the anesthetic puncture, and controlling the dosage was no easy task. During the surgery, they invited several experts from the anesthesiology department to participate in the consultation. Due to the excessive thickness of the fat layer, the distance from the skin to the uterus was too long, making the incision abnormally deep. Additionally, the fetus was in a transverse position, which further complicated the surgical procedure.

Professor Feng mentioned that because the patient was relatively overweight, postoperative care would need extra attention to prevent bedsores and monitor the wound healing condition.

Subsequent interviews with the obstetrics departments of various major hospitals in Wuhan revealed that Ms. Yin is currently the heaviest pregnant woman they have ever received.
