According to news reports, 18-year-old Xiao Zhang would never have thought that his buddy who was just drinking and playing finger-guessing games with him would cut off one of his ears simply because he didn't drink the alcohol that was offered.
"When I touched my ear, it was full of blood. I was scared stiff... I shouldn't have drunk so much..." At around 5 a.m. yesterday, after the surgery, Xiao Zhang lying on the hospital bed recalled what happened the previous night with regret. He introduced himself as being from Pingdingshan. The previous evening, he drank and chatted with three other buddies of similar age. The four of them had already consumed 3 jin (approximately 1.5 kg) of baijiu (Chinese liquor), but still felt they hadn't had enough fun, so they ordered another 10 bottles of beer. One of his friends tried to persuade him to drink more, but since Xiao Zhang was already too drunk to handle more alcohol, he refused. The friend accused him of not being brotherly enough and forced him to drink, which led to an argument and eventually escalated into a physical fight. During the fight, this friend suddenly ran into the restaurant's kitchen, grabbed a cleaver, and rushed out, swinging it at Xiao Zhang's head. Xiao Zhang dodged, but ended up having his right ear cut off. Upon seeing this, the friend was frightened and dropped the cleaver and ran away. Xiao Zhang was then sent to the local hospital, and due to the severity of his injuries, was urgently transferred to the Zhengzhou Central Trauma Hand Surgery Hospital for treatment.
"Since the blood vessels in the ear are finer and there are more gaps, it is relatively complex to reattach it. The surgery took over three hours to complete." Dr. Zhao Linfeng from the hospital said that from the current situation, after the ear was reattached, the blood circulation is good, but further treatment will still be needed for some time.
It was reported that before the incident, Xiao Zhang and this friend had a very good relationship. After the incident, no police report was made, but the relationship between the two families has clearly been affected.
