Shanghai Daguan Garden is located at No. 701 Qingshang Highway in Qingpu District, Shanghai. Shanghai Daguan Garden is a five-star park in Shanghai, situated on the west side of Dianshan Lake, 65 kilometers away from the city center of Shanghai. It was originally called Dianshan Lake Scenic Area and later renamed as Shanghai Daguan Garden. After multiple renovations and expansions, it has now become a comprehensive amusement park for sightseeing, tourism, and leisure.
Shanghai Daguan Garden is a large仿ancient garden designed based on the descriptions in the famous Chinese Qing Dynasty novel "Dream of the Red Chamber." The garden's architectural complex was planned and designed by Liang Yousong from the Shanghai Landscape Institute. The overall layout centers around Daguan Building, with features such as the "Xinqin Villa" stone archway, stone lanterns, Qin Fang Lake, Ti Ren Mu De, Curving Path Leading to Secluded Scenes, Palace Gate, "Tai Xu Fanting" relief wall, wooden archway, forming the central axis of the entire garden. To the west are set up areas like Yi Hong Courtyard, Long Cui Nunnery, Pear Fragrance Courtyard, Stone Boat, while to the east are Xiang Xiao Pavilion, Heng Wu Courtyard, Liao Feng轩Pavilion, Rice Fragrance Village and more than 20 other architectural scenic spots.
In its design, Shanghai Daguan Garden has been carefully crafted. Unlike Beijing Daguan Garden, Shanghai Daguan Garden utilizes the characteristics of Jiangnan water towns by arranging large artificial lakes within the garden. With the main entrance - Ti Ren Mu De - Daguan Building as the central axis, a winding path leading through a grand artificial hill serves as an entrance barrier, and a 16-meter-high small mountain formed from the earth excavated during lake construction provides a backdrop for Daguan Building, creating a magnificent atmosphere of mountains behind and water in front. The entire garden centers around a large lake, with ponds and Qin Fang Stream connecting various scenic spots, forming a water system with primary and secondary branches, as well as dynamic and static elements. Pavilions and gazebos are placed along the lake shores, curved bridges, stone boats, and stone lanterns on the lake, and bridge pavilions over the streams, presenting a Jiangnan garden landscape of layered mountains and winding waters, homes by the water. Daguan Garden skillfully employs the traditional Chinese architectural concept of enclosed and segregated spaces, achieving a sense of flowing momentum and centralized focus within these enclosures, creating a rich, enclosed, inward-focused small world. Within limited space, it accommodates infinite space, increasing the layers of scenery, blending architecture with the environment into one harmonious whole, expressing character traits through the environmental atmosphere, bringing the landscapes of "Dream of the Red Chamber" back to life.
