"Guardian Nanny" Cares for Abandoned Child, Moves Readers

Enthusiastic Policemen Wish to Continue Helping

Report by our staff reporter Fu Sha: Yesterday, on page 9 of our newspaper, we published the story "10-Year-Old Child Suddenly Abandoned by Father, Old Nanny Unrepentantly Guards 'Granddaughter' for Seven Years." After reading it, many enthusiastic citizens called the reporter saying they hope society can help Aunt Huang and Yuan Jie. They also wish Uncle Huang good health.

In the morning just after work started yesterday, two police officers from the Key Projects Division of the Municipal Public Security Bureau, Zhang Lianzhen and Wang Gaohua, called the reporter. They said that after reading the report in our newspaper, they were deeply moved by the old woman's unwavering love for the child and expressed a desire to visit Aunt Huang who was bedridden.

At noon, Zhang Lianzhen and Wang Gaohua brought rice, oil, milk, and other items to Aunt Huang's home. Aunt Huang looked much better than the previous day, and there was a copy of our newspaper with the article about her and Yuan Jie placed at her bedside.

Upon hearing that the police and reporters had come to visit her, Aunt Huang happily held Wang Gaohua's hand and repeatedly said "thank you." Faced with Aunt Huang's simple words, the two policemen expressed their wish to continue helping Yuan Jie in place of the elderly woman.

Zhang Lianzhen said that when she saw the news about the grandmother and granddaughter early in the morning, she immediately felt how difficult their lives were. She promptly discussed with her colleague Wang Gaohua the idea of visiting the elderly woman. "The child is too pitiful. If the child's household registration can be resolved, we will do our best to help her with future schooling and employment."

Wang Gaohua even wrote down his mobile phone number and office address for Yuan Jie, saying, "If you encounter difficulties in life or work in the future, you can contact me directly."

Yesterday afternoon, Mr. Zhao, an employee of Capital Airport Catering Co., Ltd.'s Hubei branch, also called the reporter expressing his willingness to provide Yuan Jie with a job position.

Original Housing Already Demolished

Unable to Find Yuan Jie’s Father Despite Extensive Inquiries

In order to solve Yuan Jie's household registration as soon as possible, yesterday I contacted multiple parties hoping to find the whereabouts of Yuan Jie's father.

At around 1 p.m., I went to Dazhi Road Police Station and found the household registration officer responsible for Hanjia Community. After explaining my intentions, the officer stated that Yuan Jie's household registration issue has been handled since she took over, and Yuan Jie's father is not named "Yuan Yuliang," but rather Yuan Wenyu.

Through inquiries in the police station's computer system, it was learned that Yuan Wenyu, born September 16, 1962, has an elementary school education level, is currently divorced, and his household registration address is No. 65 Jinghan Street, where he has five brothers.

The officer mentioned that the Jinghan Street area has already been demolished, and the Yuan family has long since dispersed. Last year, when Aunt Huang brought her "granddaughter" Yuan Jie to the police station to handle household registration, they had already inquired at the Hanjia Community, but the old neighbors had either moved away or passed away, and those who knew have vanished without a trace.

Subsequently, I went to Jiqing Street, where Yuan Wenyu used to run a restaurant, and found several neighbors who witnessed Yuan Wenyu's rise and fall. A boss operating a grocery store on Jiqing Street said that Yuan Wenyu's "Bit" restaurant was once very successful. "He made money, but got addicted to gambling, and eventually gave up his restaurant."

Another neighbor buying goods at the grocery store said, "A few years ago, I heard that Yuan Wenyu was working somewhere around Taibei Road, and occasionally he would be seen wandering on Jiqing Street, but no one knows where he is now or what he is doing."

Yesterday, the head of the Household Registration Department of the Municipal Public Security Bureau stated that they have assigned the Permanent Population Management Team to investigate. Since both of Yuan Jie's parents are currently unknown in terms of specific addresses, their identities must be confirmed through extensive investigations. Only after clarifying Yuan Jie's identity can the household registration issue be addressed.

Neighbors Sympathize with the “Grandmother and Granddaughter” Pair's Plight

Frequently Send Vegetables and Meals to Care for Their Lives

"When I was in school, the teacher assigned an essay titled 'My Family.' Other students wrote about their fathers and mothers, but I don’t have parents; however, I have a grandmother who loves me very much." Although she lacks parents by her side, Yuan Jie said yesterday that she still faces life optimistically, but her grandmother's meager income makes it hard to make ends meet, and the neighbors often help her.

Ding Ai Hong, who shares the same communal housing unit with Aunt Huang and Yuan Jie, feels great sympathy for the child's plight. During the time Yuan Jie dropped out of school and stayed at home, she was emotionally low and rarely spoke. Aunt Huang, fearing that her "granddaughter" might become disheartened, asked Ding Ai Hong to take Yuan Jie to help at her night market stall, which Ding readily agreed to.

Ding Ai Hong said, "I was also worried seeing the child like that, taking her out for a walk would help. Later, the community helped Yuan Jie find a job, and gradually her smile returned."

When they first moved into this house, Aunt Huang's son was working outside and wasn't at home. Ding Ai Hong and her husband noticed that the "grandmother and granddaughter" pair sometimes only ate noodles or stir-fried vegetables, so they often shared dishes cooked at their own home with the elderly woman.

Grandma Wang upstairs also praised Yuan Jie highly: "This child is smart and considerate. During holidays, when I want to clean my home, she always voluntarily comes upstairs to help me clean windows and wipe furniture."

Former Community Security Director:

"Yuan Wenyu Seems Deliberately Avoiding Seeing His Daughter"

While the journalist struggled to locate Yuan Jie's father, they managed to connect with the former security director of Hanjia Community, Zhang Zhonghua, hoping he could provide some clues to find Yuan Jie's father.

Zhang Zhonghua said that he worked as the security director in Hanjia Community for 12 years and was quite familiar with Yuan Wenyu. In the past, when Yuan Wenyu ran a restaurant on Jiqing Street, he frequently dealt with him regarding community security matters.

"For all these years, Aunt Huang has approached me more than twenty times regarding Yuan Jie's issues," Zhang Zhonghua said. "The child's future life worries Aunt Huang, who fears that if she passes away someday, the child will be left without support." Seeing the elder's expectant eyes, Zhang Zhonghua also hoped to help resolve the child's living problems.

At the end of 2009, Zhang Zhonghua obtained information through various channels that Yuan Wenyu lived on the fifth floor of a residential building in Jingfu Community, Jiang'an District. When he informed Aunt Huang's family, Aunt Huang immediately took Yuan Jie to this address to find Yuan Wenyu.

"But no matter how Aunt Huang knocked on the door, there was no response. Afterwards, Aunt Huang visited this place multiple times looking for Yuan Wenyu, but each time the door remained unopened," Zhang Zhonghua recalled. "This has been a thorn in my side for many years. I am still keeping an eye out for Yuan Wenyu's whereabouts and have approached friends who used to be close to Yuan Wenyu, asking them to deliver a message for him to come out and talk, but Yuan Wenyu seems deliberately avoiding seeing his daughter."

We hope readers who know where Yuan Wenyu is now or have relevant clues can contact our listening hotline. (Reporter Fu Sha)
