Heavenly Right Wing - Michael

Introduction

Michael (translated as 'Who Is Like God') is the chief warrior by God's side and the supreme commander of the angelic army. The Bible refers to him as "one of the Chief Princes," meaning one of the great princes. He is depicted as having unmatched courage and power, possessing a beautiful appearance, being very handsome. His character is brave and decisive; although he is warlike, he is full of compassion, absolutely rejecting and mercilessly destroying sinful acts. He is the embodiment of "absolute justice" without any trace of darkness.

Deity Authority

Michael may be the result of the incorporation of the Akkadian god Ningirsu into Christianity. In Babylonian mythology, Ningirsu was the eldest son of the chief god Enlil, the god of war and soldiers, capable of easily destroying enemy nations. Legend has it that the celestial guard - the bird spirit Zu stole the "Tablets" symbolizing the chief god's authority. The gods Anu, Adad, the great goddess Inanna, and her son Shara were all commanded to subdue Zu but failed. Ningirsu, the son of Enlil, volunteered and, with the help of other gods like Ea, defeated the terrifying Zu and retrieved his father’s authority. Whether from Ningirsu's identity or achievements, he could very possibly be the prototype of Michael (this is speculation, please use cautiously).

In canonical and apocryphal Christian texts, five angels are mentioned: Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, and Jeremiel. He might be the same entity as the Islamic angel Mikail (Michal). His rank is described as Seraphim, Power Angel, or Archangel. In Christian civilization, his deeds include: annihilating 150,000 Assyrian troops invading Jerusalem in one night, stopping Abraham from sacrificing his son Isaac, calling Moses from the burning bush to lead the Hebrews out of Egypt, capturing and imprisoning the ancient serpent (dragon) Satan for a thousand years (as recorded in Revelation). Michael, as the executor of humanity's creation and opponent of Satan, possesses power equal to the Great Demon King. Ancient Celtic people had a concept similar to China's "dragon veins," building Michael's temples at the intersection points of dragon veins to suppress them. Jewish legend says that Jehovah made Michael from fire and Gabriel from water.

In the Dead Sea Scrolls' "Battle of the Sons of Light and Darkness," Michael appears as the Deputy Lord of Heaven and Lord of Light, leading the angelic army against the dark legion led by the Lord of Darkness Belial. They fought for forty years, with the first three battles won by the Lord of Light and the next three by Belial. In the seventh battle, God himself intervened and defeated Belial.

Another identity of Michael is as the angel who counts human souls during the final judgment, guiding the dead to "this shore" and judging their fate after death (in Jewish mysticism, he is also listed as one of the angels of death). In Christianity, it is said that Michael guards the soul of the Virgin Mary (Mary), preventing others from defiling it.

Michael corresponds to the Egyptian god Sirius, the star deity. Thus, Michael takes on the role of a guide to the underworld. In Greek mythology, the corresponding deity would be Hermes or Apollo, representing the Greek letters Alpha, which signify "beginning" and "rebirth." Therefore, Michael is also the guide of souls and the guardian of light among the archangels.

"Angel of Mercy," "Angel of Justice," "Prince of God," Michael's name appears among the four archangels and seven archangels. According to the Old Testament Book of Daniel, Michael is the guardian angel of Israel, the only one among the sixty-nine guardian angels of emerging nations who did not fall. He is also the angel who will surely appear to lead people when the world falls into chaos. In Islam, Michael is described as having "emerald wings, crimson hair, with a million faces and mouths, speaking a million dialects, seeking Allah's forgiveness." The Quran records that cherubim were born from Michael's tears over the sins of believers. Early Christian sects, such as the Ophites, portrayed Michael as a lion-headed statue.

The standard image of Michael is with a sword in his right hand and scales in his left (possibly influenced by the Greek goddess of law and justice, Themis). In 1950, the Roman Curia designated Michael as the patron saint of police. In the classic Waite Tarot deck, the card "Judgment" depicts Michael blowing the horn of the end times, resurrecting the dead.

It is unknown whether due to Michael's numerous deeds or human curiosity about whether he ever rests, he is also regarded as the angel of "insomnia."

The red cross was originally the emblem of St. George, the patron saint of England, but from the Middle Ages onwards, Michael gradually became associated with St. George, making Michael the patron saint of England. The flag of England is based on the red cross of Michael-St. George.

Scott describes Michael in "The Lay of the Last Minstrel": "The red cross shone in his hand, and the moonlight through the glass poured blood onto the ground." Thus, the red cross represents Michael's divine authority.

Currently, the most famous Michael worship site worldwide is the Michael Cathedral in Washington D.C.

Michaelmas: A Christian holiday commemorating the Archangel Michael. Western churches celebrate it on September 29th, while the Orthodox Church celebrates it on November 8th.

Biblical Records about Michael

Book of Daniel:

10:13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me for twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the kings of Persia.

10:21 I will tell you what is inscribed in the book of truth. No one supports me against these except Michael, your prince.

11:1 Moreover, in the first year of Darius the Mede, I stood up to support and strengthen Michael.

12:1 At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But your people who are found written in the book will be delivered.

Book of Jude:

1:9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil and debating about Moses' body, dared not bring a slanderous judgment against him but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"

Revelation:

12:7 Then there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.

12:8 But they did not prevail, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.

12:9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

Records in the Dead Sea Scrolls:

Chapter 9: On the shields forming the "fortress," the names of angels should be written: On the shield of the first fortress, "Michael"; on the second, "Gabriel"; on the third, "Sariel" (i.e., Uriel); on the fourth, "Raphael." Michael and Gabriel [stand on the right, Sariel and Raphael stand on the left]. They should... set ambushes.

Chapter 17: Today is the day appointed by the Lord to humble the rulers of evil nations, to give eternal assistance to his people redeemed by the power of the serving angel Michael; to shine eternal light on the people of Israel, bringing them joy. Those who share God's destiny, choosing God as their heritage, will enjoy security and blessing. Thus, Michael's kingdom will be exalted among the angels (gods), and Israel's rule among humans (will be so too).

Michael ("Who is like God?"): Possibly the result of the incorporation of a Carthaginian deity into Christianity. In the Old Testament, the named archangels are only Michael and Gabriel (the Catholic Church recognizes another book, Tobit, which mentions Raphael). However, in Christian culture, Michael is the most prominent and famous archangel, with deeds including: annihilating 150,000 Assyrian troops invading Jerusalem in one night, stopping Abraham from sacrificing his only son, calling Moses from the burning bush to lead the Hebrews out of Egypt, capturing and imprisoning the ancient snake (dragon) Satan (Revelation). Michael is the earliest hero to fight against Satan, with power equal to the Great Demon King. Typically, Michael's statues are in the form of a soldier wielding a sword. According to the Old Testament Book of Daniel, Michael is the guardian angel of Israel and the great angel who will surely appear to lead people when the world falls into chaos. In Islam, Michael is described as having "emerald wings, crimson hair, with a million faces and mouths, speaking a million dialects, seeking Allah's forgiveness." The Quran records that cherubim were born from Michael's tears over the sins of believers. In the Dead Sea Scrolls' "Battle of the Sons of Light and Darkness," Michael leads the angelic army as the Deputy Lord of Heaven and Lord of Light against the dark legion led by the organizer of darkness, Belial. Another identity of Michael is as the angel who counts human souls during the final judgment. He corresponds to the Egyptian god Sirius, the star deity. Thus, Michael takes on the role of a guide to the underworld. In this aspect, his legends and concepts seem to have mutual influences with Hermes (renamed Mercury in Roman mythology). It is unknown whether due to Michael's numerous deeds or human curiosity about whether he ever rests, he is also regarded as the angel of "insomnia."

Childhood Michael:

1 Hair was red, reaching this length. Very pale skin, big eyes, voice especially high-pitched, somewhat like a girl.

2 Michael was incredibly beautiful. Slightly curled red hair, silver-white skin, blue eyes, small hands that lacked security always gripping my fingers. When he looked up, his round little chin would show a lump of tender flesh. He had four wings, but not many feathers.

Youth Michael (Isarel): A slightly tall and slender young man, with clean white skin. Short brown curls, messy and scattered, bangs hanging over his forehead, below which were brown eyes. The young man in the mirror wore a short white shirt, made of silk, light and thin. Despite the small size, the clothes were still loose. The exposed limbs in the air were slim and straight, wearing a pair of brown leather short boots, with a beautiful small silver buckle on the boots.

Adult Michael:

1 With gold six wings, crimson long hair, shedding the youthful innocence of his youth, he had become a mature man, beautiful and radiant, like the year he walked out of the holy light as the Right Wing of Heaven.

2 His hair was vermilion cinnabar, flowing down along his fully developed bones, falling past his waist. He wore a circle of sparkling silver chains on his forehead, with gems hanging, deep red like a drop of blood. I moved my wings, and the six wings of the archangel in the mirror slowly unfolded, radiating brilliance. I smiled, and the person in the mirror also smiled, with perfect features but lacking something.

3 White short boots, golden silk wrapped upwards to just below the knees. Inside, he wore short sleeves and shorts, with a long cloak outside. Deep red belt, the rest pure white. Blue cloth covered the silver chain on his hands, ribbons hung down from the collar, fastened with amber made from mermaid tears. Plus head chains, necklaces, wide and close-fitting silver bracelets...
