Chongqing - (Reported by Yang) "Simply by extracting DNA samples from a child's mouth, it is possible to determine when the child will begin an early romance and also train them to become an elite in a certain field." With this kind of advertisement, a consulting company in our city defrauded Li Lin (a pseudonym), a recent university graduate, out of 50,000 yuan in franchise fees.
"Just by extracting DNA samples from a child's mouth and having them analyzed by professional institutions for genetic identification, it is possible to determine eight categories of genes, including the time of early romance, personality, and IQ. This would allow for the early formulation of training plans, ultimately enabling the child to become an elite in certain fields." Seeing such advertisements, Li Lin, who had just graduated from university, thought he had found a good money-making project. Excitedly, he approached the consulting company that had placed the ad in our city. He paid 50,000 yuan in franchise fees to become the exclusive dealer for the "Talent Brain Function Gene Analysis" project in Beibei.
However, in early May this year, Li Lin learned online that just two days after he signed the agreement with the company, the East China Normal University Research Institute issued a "serious statement" on its official website, stating that they had not authorized any company to promote gene-related services. Feeling deceived, Li Lin took the company to court, requesting a judgment ordering the company to return the 50,000 yuan franchise fee and compensate him for economic losses such as rental costs amounting to over 45,000 yuan.
After reviewing the case, the Jiulongpo District Court made a first-instance ruling requiring the company to return the 50,000 yuan franchise fee to Li Lin and compensate him for rent and other expenses totaling over 15,000 yuan. Yesterday, since the consulting company had not paid the relevant compensation, Li Lin has already applied to the court for enforcement.
