Our reporter (Wan Qin, Qin Jing) Homicide escapee Lai had evaded justice for 15 years, but was reported by someone when bragging to others and was therefore arrested. It was learned yesterday that Lai was approved for arrest by the Qing Shan procuratorate.
On the evening of September 29, 1994, Xia, Pan, Lai and others went to the Bai Ling Salon Hotel in the new沟bridge area of Qing Shan with hunting rifles, causing Zeng to die from his injuries and Zhang to suffer serious injuries.
Afterwards, the other perpetrators in this case were successively captured and sentenced to heavy punishment, while Lai had been on the run and was listed as a wanted criminal online by the Qing Shan police.
During his escape, Lai made fake ID cards and driver's licenses, and fled through seven provinces and cities including Guangdong, Hainan, Chongqing, Sichuan, and Hunan.
Thirteen years after fleeing, due to difficulties surviving outside and missing his family, Lai secretly returned to Wuhan two years ago and hid in a civilian house on Yinnong Street in Guitian Second Road.
As time passed, Lai let down his guard. In May this year, when chatting with others, he boasted that he was involved in a shooting case 15 years ago and had not been caught until now. Subsequently, someone reported him to the Qing Shan police.
On May 8, after staking out his residence for two days, the police arrested Lai.
