Our news report: Yesterday morning, Xiao Peng, originally a sophomore at one of our city's universities, was on trial at the Fifth Middle Court. The prosecution charged him with intentional injury resulting in death. Also on trial with him were his colleagues, Chen and Li.
The prosecution alleged that on the evening of February 21st this year, while Xiao Peng was working at the Mingmen Club in Jiaochangkou, Yuzhong District, a car arrived that refused to consume services at the club but insisted on parking in the club's dedicated parking lot. Xiao Peng's explanations were futile, and he ended up in a dispute with the driver, Mr. Du. Mr. Du kicked Xiao Peng, causing him to retreat a few steps and bend over. Nearby hostesses noticed and alerted other security guards.
Security guards Chen and Li, among others, rushed to the parking lot and confronted Mr. Du. A physical altercation ensued, during which two individuals knocked Mr. Du to the ground. At this moment, Xiao Peng also took the opportunity to kick Mr. Du in the lower body several times. Meanwhile, the security captain, Li, called the police.
After mediation by the police station, Mr. Du, feeling no apparent discomfort, apologized to Xiao Peng and agreed to pay 200 yuan in compensation. Subsequently, as Mr. Du drove from Jiaochangkou to Daxigou, he suddenly experienced excruciating headaches. His friends rushed him to Southwest Hospital, where tests revealed intracranial bleeding. After undergoing two surgeries costing approximately 100,000 yuan, Mr. Du passed away on March 12th.
Two months later, Mr. Du's girlfriend, who hadn't yet finalized their marriage certificate, gave birth to a daughter. Yesterday, the Du family filed a civil compensation claim totaling over 1.14 million yuan, including medical expenses, support for Mr. Du's daughter, and parental care. As Xiao Peng's employer, the Mingmen Club was also named as a defendant.
In court, Xiao Peng wept uncontrollably. He recounted how his mother had passed away from liver cancer during his first year of junior high school, leaving the family in debt of over 40,000 yuan. Over the years, he had strived hard in his studies, hoping to improve his family's situation in the future.
Xiao Peng's 51-year-old father arrived in the main urban area from Wugui Town, Tongnan County, the day before. The elder Mr. Peng said that last September, his son had been introduced to work at the Mingmen Club's parking lot. His son attended school during the day and worked nights, earning a monthly salary of 1,200 yuan. A few months later, his son sent him 1,000 yuan to help repay the debts. Reporter: Mo Xueqing
