When I woke up in the dark, my head hurt badly and I couldn't move my limbs. I could hear the sailors' cries, the wind, and the waves. The whole world seemed to be rising, ascending, and then falling again. I felt very sick and initially didn't understand what was happening.
After a while, I realized I must be somewhere inside a ship that was quickly sailing through the water. I've been kidnapped! I angrily thought. Clearly, my uncle and the captain had conspired together to plot all of this. As I lay there in the dark, I began to feel fear and despair.
A few hours later, a beam of light shone on my face. A senior crew member named Mr. Leach stood there looking down at me. He cleaned the wound on my head, gave me some water, and kindly told me to sleep. The next time he came, I felt very hot and sick. He brought Captain Hodgson with him.
"Well, Captain, you see for yourself," Mr. Leach said, "this young man is very sick. We must immediately take him out of this unsanitary cell." "That's none of your business," the captain replied, "you're paid to do your job, don't worry about this boy. He has to stay down here."
"I'm just hired as a senior crew member," Mr. Leach replied sharply, staring at the captain. "I didn't take money like you to kidnap and murder!" Hodgson angrily attacked Leach. "What do you mean? What are you talking about?"
"You know," Mr. Leach said, looking quietly at him. "By now, you should know me well, Mr. Leach. I'm not a weak person. But if you say this young man is going to die..."
"Yes, he will die!" Mr. Leach said. "Alright, sir, put him wherever you want!"
