Our news (reported by Cheng Rongxing, Wan Qin, and correspondent Wang Xudong) - A male migrant worker returning to Wuhan had his belongings stolen, leaving him penniless. This drove him to evil thoughts, leading to a street robbery of a woman who resisted. In a fit of anger, the man grabbed a red brick and smashed the woman's head dozens of times, causing her serious injuries. Witnessing his heinous act, intellectually disabled young man Shen Chao and retired taxi driver Cheng Shengbing chased the assailant for hundreds of meters, engaging in several fights before finally subduing him with the help of police officers. Yesterday afternoon, on Hankou’s Xinhua Road, a heroic song was sung through the joint efforts of civilians and the police.

The perpetrator is named Zhu Hanbo, from Xiaogan. Two days ago, after working in Shanghai, he returned to Wuhan. Upon getting off the train, all his belongings were stolen, which led him to have wicked thoughts. At around 3:05 PM yesterday, near the Qu Shuilou bus stop in Hankou, he noticed a stylishly dressed woman and snatched her handbag. The woman resisted by kicking Zhu Hanbo, enraging him to the point that he picked up a brick and hit the victim's face dozens of times.

Zhu Hanbo's actions shocked the surrounding crowd. Retired taxi driver Cheng Shengbing, who was passing by in his private car, stepped forward to stop Zhu Hanbo from committing further violence. Carrying the brick, Zhu Hanbo fled arrogantly. Mr. Cheng and intellectually disabled young man Shen Chao pursued him tirelessly, engaging in multiple scuffles, eventually cornering him in a small alley near the Weiyeh Building.

During the struggle with Zhu Hanbo, Shen Chao was injured on the head by a brick but still held onto Zhu Hanbo's waist without hesitation. When officers Ai Tao and Wang Kai from patrol car No. 5061 arrived at the scene, they joined forces with Shen Chao and Mr. Cheng to subdue Zhu Hanbo. During the arrest, Officer Ai Tao suffered an injury to his eyebrow.

It was learned that the victim, Li Liuhong, is 32 years old and currently receiving emergency treatment at Hankou's Xinhua Hospital, with critical injuries and her life hanging by a thread.

Retired Taxi Driver and Disabled Man Work Together to Capture the Criminal

At around 3:05 PM yesterday, a man robbed and assaulted someone on Hankou’s Xinhua Road. The retired taxi driver and the disabled man acted courageously, jointly pursuing the criminal for hundreds of meters before capturing him together with the police.

The incident occurred outside the parking lot exit of the Minsheng Bank Tower on Hankou’s Xinhua Road, near the Qu Shuilou bus stop. When reporters arrived at the scene yesterday afternoon, the injured woman had already been rushed to Xinhua Hospital for emergency treatment, leaving only a few broken bricks behind. Despite the rain washing away some evidence, there were still traces of blood on the ground.

According to security guard Master Chen outside the Minsheng Bank Tower parking lot, at around 3:05 PM, while he was on duty in the checkpoint booth, he suddenly heard a scream outside: "Ah!" Then, a group of women near the bus stop scattered in panic. One woman ran ahead towards the direction of Construction Avenue, followed closely by a man holding a red brick. Within less than 20 meters, the man caught up with the woman, swung the brick twice, and she immediately fell to the ground.

Master Chen said that the man then snatched the brown large handbag from the woman and turned back. "Unexpectedly, the man returned and continued hitting her head with the brick." Master Chen added that the entire assault lasted 3 to 5 minutes, and by the time the surrounding crowd reacted and tried to intervene, the woman was lying motionless on the ground.

An Outcry Against Injustice

At this moment, citizen Cheng Shengbing happened to be driving past the intersection of Minsheng Bank Tower. He witnessed everything. Cheng said, "The man used a double-layer hollow red brick, which an ordinary person would find unbearable after just one hit. But that man kept smashing the woman's face with both hands more than ten times, breaking her head and even the brick itself, yet he didn't stop. It was too cruel." All the passersby were terrified and fled to the side. Cheng immediately parked his car on the roadside, not even locking the door, and shouted loudly as he rushed forward: "What are you doing? You're despicable!"

However, the man showed no fear and instead roared: "Come on, come here, let me kill you." Frightened, Cheng retreated into his car, and the man casually carried the handbag and walked along the pedestrian path of Xinhua Road towards Union Hospital.

Cheng got out of the car again and followed the man from a distance. At this time, disabled young man Shen Chao, who was handing out flyers nearby at the entrance of the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, also followed beside him. Cheng said, "It was him walking beside me that gave me strength and courage."

Two Citizens Chase for Hundreds of Meters

Because the attacker was wielding a brick, Cheng and Shen dared not get too close and followed at a distance, chasing for over 200 meters until they reached the intersection of Jianghan North Road and Xinhua Road. At this point, because they were too close, the attacker suddenly turned around and attacked Cheng and Shen.

Cheng had no choice but to retreat, being chased around the flower bed several times. "He glared at me and said he would catch me, and if he did, he'd kill me," Cheng recalled. Then, the attacker threw the two pieces of brick at Cheng, "which I managed to dodge." Unexpectedly, the attacker calmly walked over, picked up the bricks, jumped over the flower bed, and entered the motor vehicle lane of Xinhua Road.

Citizen Tong Jisheng witnessed this: The attacker attempted to hail a taxi to flee, but no taxi dared to stop. He then climbed over the central barrier and ran to the entrance of the Kaimeng Tower across the street. By this time, Cheng Shengbing had picked up two wooden sticks from the roadside, giving one to the young man Shen Chao beside him, saying, "We must capture him today." Then the two crossed the road and engaged in a standoff with the attacker.

Cheng recounted that when Shen Chao was maneuvering against the attacker, he circled around behind a taxi and struck the attacker on the back with a stick. This made the attacker frightened, so he abandoned the bag on the ground and fled. Cheng and Shen quickly chased after him.

Police and Civilians Jointly Capture the Criminal

Cheng and Shen chased relentlessly, and the attacker, panicking, fled into a small alley between the Weiyeh Building and the Xinhua Mingdian residential complex. Finally, at the entrance of a scrap recycling station, the decisive battle unfolded. Shen Chao charged forward first and fought with the attacker, resulting in a head injury. However, ignoring the pain, Shen Chao embraced the man's waist, preventing him from moving. Seizing the opportunity, Cheng rushed forward and struck the man with a stick.

At this moment, the patrol car No. 5061 from the Hankou Jianyin Tower area arrived at the scene after receiving the alarm. Officers Ai Tao and Wang Kai immediately spotted several men fighting at the alley entrance, among them a thin youth covered in blood. The officers ordered the other youth holding a brick to stop, but instead, the man tried to smash the thin youth with the brick in his hand. The two officers immediately rushed forward and disarmed him. Unexpectedly, the suspect picked up a wooden stick from the ground and began swinging it wildly at the officers trying to arrest him. Officer Ai Tao's eyebrow was injured, and Wang Kai was hit in multiple places. Despite their wounds, the two officers subdued the suspect. Subsequently, the attacker was apprehended by the police.

Stolen Goods Leading to Robbery Thoughts

It was learned that the victim is named Li Liuhong, 32 years old, from Macheng, Hubei Province, and was admitted to the emergency department of Xinhua Hospital. At around 5 PM yesterday, when reporters arrived at the hospital, Li had already been moved to the intensive care unit. Her family members were emotionally agitated, only stating that she worked in real estate mediation and refused to say more. According to the emergency doctors, Li's condition is critical, and currently, she can only maintain breathing through a ventilator. Her attending physician stated, "Li's facial injuries are extremely severe; even victims of major traffic accidents aren't as bad as her. Her family couldn't even recognize her appearance."

After investigation by the police, the suspect is named Zhu Hanbo, born in September 1976, from Xiaochang, Xiaogan. Two days ago, Zhu Hanbo returned from working in Shanghai and was robbed at the train station, leaving him penniless. Around 3 PM yesterday, the suspect loitered near the Qu Shuilou bus stop, looking for opportunities to commit crimes. Seeing Li Liuhong dressed fashionably, he assumed she was wealthy, so he snatched her bag and ran, containing 107 yuan in cash and a mobile phone. During her resistance, Li kicked the suspect, enraging him. Zhu Hanbo picked up a brick from the ground and hit Li's face, causing her to fall. After she stood up, Zhu Hanbo rushed forward, strangling her neck with his arm and smashing her head with the brick. When nearby residents tried to intervene, the suspect fled.

The Brave Young Man Has Intellectual Disabilities

The injured officer Ai Tao, citizens Cheng Shengbing, and Shen Chao were subsequently sent to Union Hospital for emergency treatment. When reporters arrived, Shen Chao's head wound had already been stitched up, with bloodstains on his right arm and neck, but his head CT scan showed no significant abnormalities.

Facing interviews, Shen Chao spoke unclearly, managing only one word at a time. His cousin-in-law Ms. Wu introduced that Shen Chao is 25 years old, from Zaoyang, Hubei Province. Due to hereditary hepatolenticular degeneration, he suffered intellectual damage. The disability certificate shown by Shen Chao indicated that he has intellectual disabilities. Five years ago, after finishing high school in Zaoyang, he came to Wuhan to work. Shen Chao said that at the time, he didn't know the attacker had robbed and injured someone; he just knew someone was chasing a bad person, so he followed.

The other person who chased the attacker, Cheng Shengbing, is 43 years old. He was originally a taxi driver for Huachang Taxi Company's First Branch but changed careers earlier this year. He told reporters that he had been a taxi driver for over a decade and encountered a robbery in 2002, "it was the kindness of enthusiastic citizens that saved me, and I am determined to give back to society." Mr. Cheng said that one day in 2002, at 3 AM, he took two passengers from Lao Tongcheng to Jingwu Road. As soon as they entered a small alley, "I pulled the handbrake, and the person in the back stabbed me." Instinctively, Mr. Cheng blocked the attack with his hand, almost severing his left index finger. Afterwards, Mr. Cheng fought with the thug in the car for about seven or eight minutes. Fortunately, a Mr. Xie passed by and scared the thug away. "Mr. Xie immediately drove me to Union Hospital, saving my life," Mr. Cheng said.
