February 14th is Valentine’s Day, but this year, for 24-year-old Xiao Na (a pseudonym), it was a painful day. She sought medical attention due to irregular menstruation, but unfortunately, the busy doctor overlooked the fact that she was still a virgin and instructed her to undergo a vaginal ultrasound. During the procedure, Xiao Na's hymen was torn by the instrument.
On the afternoon of February 15th, Hospital No. 174 gave Xiao Na three suggestions for handling the situation: compensation of 1000 yuan; assistance in repairing her hymen; and free treatment for her menstrual irregularities. However, the distressed Xiao Na could not accept the hospital's proposal, stating that the hymen is "priceless."
Due to Irregular Menstruation, Woman Seeks Medical Attention
Xiao Na, 24 years old, comes from Jiangxi Province. After graduating from university, she moved to Xiamen to work. Recently, Xiao Na noticed that her period had stopped, so she quickly went to Hospital No. 174 to see a specialist. Xiao Na mentioned that on January 22nd, she visited Hospital No. 174, underwent an ultrasound examination, and received medication. By February 14th, her period still hadn't come, so she returned to Hospital No. 174.
At around 10:30 AM on the 14th, after more than an hour of waiting, Xiao Na finally met Director Yu who had treated her previously. "She asked me to sit down, briefly questioned me about a few things, then handed me an ultrasound order form, instructing me to go to the reproductive center for the ultrasound. The entire process took less than a minute."
After the Ultrasound, Bleeding Occurred
That morning, Xiao Na went to the hospital's reproductive center for the ultrasound. Xiao Na stated that during the examination, the instrument entered her vagina twice. The first time it entered, it hurt so much that she moved. At the time, she assumed that pain during such examinations was normal, so she said, "I'll endure it." Meanwhile, another operator nearby kept comforting her, saying, "Take deep breaths, don't be nervous."
Xiao Na also mentioned that because she always thought the hymen was located deep inside the body, she didn't think such an examination would rupture it.
However, after the procedure, Xiao Na felt increasing pain and eventually started crying. Her friend who accompanied her sensed something was wrong and suggested Xiao Na check herself in the restroom. "When I pulled down my underwear, I saw blood!" Xiao Na said. Regardless of how little she understood, she realized what had happened. At this point, the doctors had already finished their shifts, so Xiao Na and her friend could only wait until the afternoon to find Director Yu again.
Doctor Writes Proof Acknowledging "Rupture Caused by Examination"
Xiao Na informed the reporter that upon finding Director Yu, she immediately conducted another examination on her. "Director Yu discovered that my hymen was indeed ruptured and admitted her previous oversight," Xiao Na said. Feeling helpless, she requested that Director Yu write a proof document to prevent any denial later. "As soon as I mentioned writing a proof, her good attitude disappeared," Xiao Na said. However, under her persistent request, Director Yu wrote a proof, which roughly stated that without fully understanding the patient's situation, a vaginal examination was performed, resulting in the rupture of the hymen at the 3 o'clock and 10 o'clock positions.
Xiao Na indicated that during her previous visit, she had also seen Director Yu. "During my first visit, I proactively informed Director Yu that I am unmarried, have no boyfriend, and have never engaged in sexual activity," Xiao Na said, believing this sufficiently indicated her status as a virgin.
After the Incident, Xiao Na Called Her Mother
Xiao Na's mother mentioned that upon hearing the news, she collapsed on the ground. "We are very traditional people; this is a matter that will affect her entire life," she said.
Hospital Suggests Compensation and Repair
On the afternoon of February 15th, the hospital provided three suggestions for compensation.
Yesterday afternoon, the reporter contacted Hospital No. 174 regarding this matter, and relevant hospital authorities confirmed that Xiao Na had indeed denied having any sexual history during her first visit. During her second visit, due to the doctor being busy, they failed to review the previous records and consequently issued the vaginal ultrasound order. "The doctor said she usually pays attention to this detail but neglected it this time," the responsible person said.
However, the doctor also explained that the two tears on Xiao Na's hymen were not large, each measuring approximately 0.2 millimeters, requiring only one stitch for repair.
Simultaneously, the hospital raised its own doubts. "According to common sense, if the hymen ruptures, there should be immediate bleeding, meaning blood would have been visible when the instrument was withdrawn from the body. But according to our understanding, the ultrasound operator did not notice any blood on the instrument, and Xiao Na only noticed the blood during her subsequent inspection," the relevant responsible person said.
Currently, Xiao Na and her family have decided to file a lawsuit to seek justice.
