According to reports (by reporter Wei Liu), a woman surnamed Liang, who was divorced twice, married another man while she was still married to her third husband. It is reported that the Shunyi court sentenced Liang to one year in prison, suspended for one year, for bigamy.
Liang is 39 years old. After divorcing her first husband, she remarried Mr. Li in September 2007 and had a son with him. In March 2009, they divorced by court mediation after Mr. Li found out about her improper relationship with Mr. Zhao and frequent quarrels.
In May 2009, Liang married Mr. Zhao but they also frequently quarreled after marriage. In August of the same year, Liang met Mr. Yang from Shandong and began frequent interactions with him. In January 2010, Liang lied to Mr. Zhao, saying she was returning to her hometown in Sichuan, and then registered her marriage with Mr. Yang in Shandong.
In May 2010, after an argument with Mr. Yang, Liang returned to live with Mr. Zhao along with her son and revealed her bigamy to Mr. Zhao. Later, Mr. Yang discovered that Liang was already married to Mr. Zhao and reported it to the public security authorities. Liang was subsequently arrested and released on bail. It was reported that at the time the indictment was delivered, Liang claimed that she had divorced Mr. Yang in late September 2010.
The court held that Liang's actions constituted bigamy. Considering her good attitude towards confession and the fact that she had dissolved her marriage with Mr. Yang, she was given a lighter punishment.
