Da Han (the coldest period), as the name suggests, refers to the time when the weather becomes extremely cold, even colder than any other time. On this day of Da Han, one should guard against strong winds, heavy rains, thick fogs, extreme cold, intense heat, and excessive dryness.
When encountering strong winds, how should you protect your body? After waking up in the morning, first use hot water to warm a towel. Use the hot towel to cover Fengfu point, Fengchi point, ear tips, Lügu point, Shenying point, earlobe, Chengjiang point, and Daying point on the neck for several seconds before washing your face.
When encountering heavy rain, if you haven't been drenched, fill a basin with warm water that is not too hot, and place both feet inside. Once your feet are in, rub the soles back and forth. After rubbing the soles, push along each toe all the way to the inner ankle's Taixi point, the outer ankle's Kunlun point, and Jiexi point, then soak both feet in hot water.
When encountering thick fog, use a hot towel to cover your nose. You don't need to keep the towel still on your nose; instead, cover it briefly and lift it away. After covering the nose, from the back of the neck to the front, and then from the front to the back of the neck, repeat the process.
During times of extreme cold or heat, cut a piece of green onion white, chop it finely, and steep it in boiling water. Then wash your hands and use two fingers dipped in the green onion water to massage your nose, which can help prevent colds. Use a warm wet towel to wipe the JiQuan point under the armpit, after wiping JiQuan point, clean the neck lymph nodes, then the groin lymph nodes, and finally the popliteal lymph nodes. Wiping these areas helps dissipate heat.
Living in this world, everyone wants to live freely, independently, healthily, and long-lived. Thus, pursuing exercise, rest, nutrition, and seeking certain pleasures have become popular trends, often neglecting behavior as a form of self-health preservation.
In real life, there are many people who often harbor good intentions, enjoy helping others, maintain a clear mind, and lead simple lives naturally. Even if they eat plain food and work hard all day, they still live happily and enjoy longevity as a reward for their kindness.
From a medical perspective, selfish behaviors may bring temporary benefits to an individual but incur the disdain of others, worsening interpersonal relationships. Acts such as corruption, theft, robbery, and murder, even if they escape immediate detection, will inevitably cause anxiety due to public pressure and police pursuits. These individuals will undoubtedly live in constant fear, fearing eventual capture by the law. Being in such a stressful state for a long time will inevitably result in feelings of tension, fear, anxiety, and depression, leading to dysfunction of internal organs, reduced immunity, and loss of bodily resistance, making it difficult to resist bacterial or viral invasions, thus becoming ill.
For those who act with compassion, do good deeds without expecting returns, and maintain a peaceful mindset, free from resentment and frustration, staying calm and tranquil, they build harmonious and amicable interpersonal relationships. Especially those who are passionate about social welfare and reach a state of selflessness in benefiting others, gain a sense of happiness.
Studies show that people who often harbor good intentions and do not seek personal gain experience less burden, remain emotionally pleasant, and frequently avoid illness, achieving the effect of prolonging life. This is the causal relationship of retribution for good and evil. Clearly, paying attention to moral cultivation is not only a principle of being human but also a method of health preservation. The ancient saying "benevolent people live longer" holds profound wisdom worth our deep reflection.
