Green Enterprise Culture

Introduction: Engels pointed out: "We must not be overly intoxicated by our victories over the natural world. For every such victory, nature has retaliated against us."

- Excerpt from Engels' "Dialectics of Nature"

Keywords: Green enterprise culture, environmental crisis, clean production, enterprise sustainable development

In the 21st century, as the world enters the era of green economy, creating a green enterprise culture has become a required course for Chinese enterprises facing challenges and also a winning tool for enterprises to pursue excellence. Green enterprise culture mainly refers to using green culture as the guiding ideology in enterprise culture construction, developing green production as the foundation, promoting green marketing as the guarantee, and satisfying employees' green needs as the motivation, thereby achieving an operating culture that realizes the sustainable development of employees, enterprises, ecology, and society. Green enterprise culture is the advanced stage of enterprise culture development.

Section One: Enterprise Development and Environmental Protection

As humanity's ability to transform nature increases, so does the speed at which we destroy it. China's industrialization process entered a period of rapid growth in the 1990s, but the rapid economic and social development achieved at the cost of sacrificing the environment inevitably comes with a significant environmental crisis. The extinction of animal and plant species, water resource shortages and water pollution, air pollution, etc., have seriously threatened human survival and development.

I. Enterprises and Ecological Environment

The increasingly severe environmental crisis is closely related to the rapid development of large-scale mechanized industries, but intentional or unintentional destructive actions caused by humans' lagging environmental awareness are also to blame. While the former cannot be avoided, the latter can be mitigated through conscious human actions.

1. Environmental Crisis

Since 1978, China's GDP annual average growth rate has been greater than 8%, significantly improving people's living standards, lifting tens of millions out of poverty, increasing life expectancy, reducing infant mortality rates, and experiencing rapid urbanization: the urban population rose from 190 million in 1980 to 350 million in 1995. Industrialization also surged, with the output of more than ten million industrial enterprises growing at a rate of 15% in the mid-1990s. However, this high-speed socio-economic development has been accompanied by a sharp decline in environmental quality, with industrialization causing the most alarming environmental pollution. According to a joint report on China's environmental quality by the World Bank and China's National Environmental Protection Administration: (1) The levels of suspended particles and sulfur dioxide in major cities' air exceed WHO (World Health Organization) and Chinese standards by 2-5 times; (2) Emphysema and chronic bronchitis have become leading causes of death, five times higher than in the U.S. and twice the average level in developing countries; (3) Every year, 178,000 people die prematurely due to environmental pollution; (4) Air pollution results in the loss of seventy-four million work-years; (5) Among the 135 monitored urban rivers, 52 have severely exceeded water quality standards; (6) Tens of millions of people's safe drinking water is under threat; (7) In southern and southwestern high-sulfur coal regions, acid rain causes severe losses affecting 10% of the land, resulting in a 3% reduction in crops and forestry; (8) The average blood lead levels of children in Shenyang, Shanghai, and other major cities are significantly above standard, posing an 80% higher risk to normal intellectual development; (9) Only about 7% of urban sewage is treated; (10) Air and water pollution cause...
