From September 16 to 20, more than 800 skilled players from 13 countries and regions will gather in Gaodong Town to compete for the "Gateball World Cup." This is also the largest-scale and highest-standard world gateball event ever held in China. To welcome this competition, Gaodong Town invested over 70 million yuan to build a gateball-themed park covering an area of 70,000 square meters with a total construction area of 8,010 square meters. It includes six artificial turf outdoor gateball courts and twelve natural grass courts, representing the highest domestic standards for gateball facilities.

From September 16 to 20, more than 800 top gateball players from 13 countries and regions will assemble in Gaodong Town to vie for the "Gateball World Cup," marking the first time China has hosted such a large-scale and high-level international gateball championship.

The "Gateball Hometown" Secures Hosting Rights

According to the press conference held by the organizing committee on August 27, the Gateball World Championship is the highest level competition in global gateball, organized every four years by the World Gateball Union. This is the first time China is hosting the World Championship. The town of Gaodong managed to secure the hosting rights largely due to its strong gateball culture.

Gateball originated in Japan and has a history of over 60 years, with over 15 million enthusiasts worldwide. Gateball was introduced to China in 1983, and in 1994, villagers in Gaodong began to engage in this sport that combines physical and intellectual challenges. "Although we started late, the people of Gaodong quickly fell in love with this sport," said Sun Yu, the mayor of Gaodong. After more than a decade of development, Gaodong now boasts "gateball courts in every village and gateball athletes in every team." Currently, the town has 31 artificial turf gateball courts and 14 natural grass courts. Gateball teams across all age groups, from youth to seniors, have repeatedly won honors in national competitions and even international events. As a result, the town has been awarded titles such as "Advanced Township in Shanghai's Characteristic Sports" and "China's Gateball Hometown."

To prepare for this competition, Gaodong Town invested over 70 million yuan to construct a gateball-themed park spanning 70,000 square meters with a total construction area of 8,010 square meters. It features six artificial turf outdoor courts and twelve natural grass courts. All preparations are nearing completion, and the gateball experts will refine their skills within the scenic park adorned with bridges over flowing streams and flying seabirds.
