Brother Small Eyes
The eyes of Brother Small Eyes were exceptionally small, so narrow that they seemed like slits. When he sat quietly without speaking, you couldn't tell if he was asleep or awake. One autumn day, Brother Small Eyes went for a medical check-up. During the vision test, the doctor asked him to open his eyes wider. But no matter how hard he tried, his eyes wouldn't open very wide. The doctor got anxious and said, "How can you read the eye chart with your eyes squinted like that?" Brother Small Eyes replied, "My mom gave me these small eyes, what am I supposed to do?"
Though Brother Small Eyes had small eyes, his insight was particularly sharp. Once, while on a bus in winter, there was a thief trying to steal money from an old blind woman. Nobody else noticed, but Brother Small Eyes did. Actually, there was also a big-eyed uncle who saw it, but he deliberately closed his eyes pretending not to see. Seeing the pitiful state of the blind old woman, Brother Small Eyes wanted to stop the thief. However, seeing that the thief had several accomplices, all looking fierce, he was afraid they might beat him up. Yet, he couldn't bear to let it happen. After some thought, he stepped forward and took out a pack of candy from his pocket, offering it to the thief saying, "Uncle, have some candy. My grandma bought it for me, she can't see." Hearing this, the thief's face turned red and he slunk away.
