Generally, the feeding of centipedes starts around 6 p.m., because centipedes are nocturnal and come out at night to feed between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. Feeding occurs every two days, and the feed must be sufficient to avoid killing due to lack of feed and competition. Although centipedes have a wide range of food sources, they require fresh food and do not eat rotten food. In one feeding, they can consume up to 1/5 to 3/5 of their body weight. After being full, they will not die of hunger for ten days to half a month without food.

Centipedes have the ability to endure hunger and will not die of hunger for 1 to 2 months without eating. However, they cannot live without water. The demand for water is relatively high, especially in hot weather when drinking water should be provided in time. This can be done by wetting corn cobs or sponges and placing them on bricks or tiles in the nest, or soaking clean cloth strips in water and placing them on bricks or tiles. Drinking utensils can also be placed, but care must be taken to prevent centipedes from falling into them. Small stones can be placed in the drinking utensils to keep the water level balanced. Water must be changed regularly to maintain freshness.

The suitable temperature for centipede growth and reproduction is 20℃-32℃. Below 10℃, their activity slows down, and both activity and food intake decrease. Below 5℃, they enter hibernation.

The relative humidity of the air in the breeding nest is generally around 70%, and the humidity of the soil in the nest is 30% to 35%.

Density of centipede breeding:

Generally, about 600 adult centipedes, 1800 medium-sized centipedes, and 3000 small centipedes are placed per square meter. Centipedes of different sizes must be bred separately to prevent the strong bullying the weak, large preying on small, and mutual killing.

What feeds do centipedes eat?

Centipedes prefer fresh animal-based feed, such as soft-bodied juicy small insects like crickets, earthworms, locusts, spiders, mole crickets, grasshoppers, worms, flies, maggots, sparrows, rodents, frogs, and other carnivorous animals, as well as pig blood, chicken blood, tender grass buds, and watermelon peels.

Hygiene:

The centipede's nest must be kept clean. Any leftover feed and dead bodies should be promptly removed. If dead bodies and leftover feed are not cleared, they may rot and mold, causing centipedes to get sick if they mistakenly eat them. Every month, potassium permanganate can be diluted with water until it turns light purple, then sprinkled on the bricks and tiles in the nest for disinfection.

Seasonal management of centipedes:

Spring management: In spring, attention should be paid to management before and after the Awakening of Insects. At this time, the temperature is low, although centipedes begin to recover, their activity and digestive abilities are weak. Feeding too early often leads to indigestion. Generally, feeding occurs once every five days.

Summer management: Summer is the peak season for centipede activity. Besides providing enough food, hygiene must also be maintained. Any rotten corpses and feed should be cleaned up, and water should be supplied. The drinking water must be clean, and windows can be opened indoors to ensure ventilation.

Autumn management: Young centipedes appear in August and September; before winter, grouping work should be done. More active feed should be given to strengthen physical fitness and store energy within the body. The same applies to other age groups of centipedes, and attention should be paid to changes in the activity area's temperature.

Winter management: Around Frost's Descent, with the drop in temperature, centipedes stop eating and begin hibernation. Attention should be paid to frost prevention during hibernation.

Management of different age groups of centipedes:

(1) Management of young centipedes: After 42 days of incubation, centipede eggs become young centipedes. At this time, their appetite is large, and feeding must be sufficient. Water should be provided for sucking, and tasty feed should be fed.

(2) During the growth, development, and egg-laying process of adult centipedes, the quality of feed is required to be higher. Insects and meat are usually the main feed, and the frequency of feeding should be increased.

Supported by Huazhong Agricultural University: As part of the national "211 Project" key university, Huazhong Agricultural University collaborates with Wuhan Agri-science Humin Biological Engineering Co., Ltd. to study and promote scientific farming and technological enrichment through centipede breeding technology: Humin No.2 Golden Headed Centipede.

Advanced technical advantages: Wuhan Agri-science Humin Biological Engineering Co., Ltd. and many biological experts and professors of bioengineering from Huazhong Agricultural University, through years of breeding observation, use selected purification technology means and biological genetic modification engineering to breed a new generation variety - Humin No.2 Golden Headed Centipede. After breeding observation, this variety is easy to breed, gentle in nature, strong in adaptability, fast-growing, highly reproductive, better medicinal value, and more significant economic value, making it an ideal investment breeding project for many breeding friends.
