Wu Wei said that Cheng's journey to find his mother was very arduous. "Before leaving home, he called his mother many times but could never get through. Out of desperation, he decided to go to Xi'an to find her. With no money, he couldn't take a bus and had no choice but to walk. Not knowing the way, he heard from adults that the expressway could directly reach Xi'an, so he decided to walk along the Xitong Expressway. Along the way, the cars speeding by on the highway were extremely dangerous. Cheng walked in fear, and when he was too tired at night, he could only sit by the roadside and sleep. After waking up, he continued on his journey. He endured all these hardships just to see his mother. When Cheng told me about these experiences, I felt deeply moved."

The enthusiastic taxi driver Wu Wei managed to get Cheng's mother's phone number. Luckily, the call that Cheng had been unable to connect finally went through on the first try. Wu Wei informed Cheng's mother that her son had come to Xi'an to find her and that he could take Cheng to her. Cheng's mother and Wu Wei agreed to meet at Zhifang Village inside the North Gate. At around 6:30 PM on August 3, after a day and night of arduous travel, Cheng finally saw his mother. "A 13-year-old boy, in order to find his mother, walked alone for a day and night. Fortunately, he finally arrived safely. If anything had happened, how much regret would the parents have?" Wu Wei said that from Cheng, he saw the mental anguish endured by many left-behind children whose parents worked outside. He also hoped to tell more working parents that no matter how busy they are, they should always find time to go home and visit their children.

With the help of the taxi driver, the young boy finally met his mother.

It had been three months since the 13-year-old boy Cheng Cheng (a pseudonym) from Sanyuan County last saw his mother who worked as a nanny in Xi'an. Driven by his longing for his mother, he walked along the highway for a day and night, finally reaching Xi'an. At the highway exit, with the help of taxi driver Wu Wei, this 13-year-old boy finally met his mother.

The young boy appeared ragged at the highway exit.

Around 5:30 PM on August 3, after dropping off a passenger from Xi'an to Tongchuan, taxi driver Wu Wei drove back to Xi'an. When he reached the Beiyang North Toll Station, he saw a little boy waving frantically at him near the toll station. After paying the toll and exiting the station, Wu Wei stopped his car next to the little boy and found that the boy was shirtless, his pants were full of holes, and his body was covered in dust, looking like he was lost. "I asked him what happened and why he was standing at the highway entrance, which was very dangerous. His answer shocked me," Wu Wei told the reporter yesterday, "He said his name was Cheng, he was 13 years old, and lived in Sanyuan County. Since it was summer vacation, he missed his mother who worked as a nanny in Xi'an very much. However, his mother had left home three months ago to work in Xi'an and had never returned. Apart from knowing his mother's phone number, he didn't know anything else. To see his mother, he sneaked out of the house unnoticed by the adults at home, walking along the Xitong Expressway from his hometown in Sanyuan, walking for a day and night, and finally reaching Xi'an."
