At present, mature electronic paper is basically the use of glass as a substrate, but SONY shows this display prototype to plastic substrate, compared with the former has the advantage of lighter weight, the more significant feature is that it supports bending, and even can be rolled up like real paper, and it is not as fragile as the glass substrate electronic paper, the compression resistance and fall performance can be improved.
More parameters of this flexible electronic paper prototype have not been announced, from the scene pictures, it is still a monochrome gray screen, of course, and the current popular E Ink electronic ink screen similar, also has a paper-like display effect. Sony has not said when it will be used in its reader products, but according to Sony Insider, it may be commercially available in one to two years.
