Canon's research and development department continued to work hard, after the introduction of 120 million pixel sensor, and successfully developed this 202×205mm CMOS image sensor. Above is a photo of this new sensor, next to it is a regular 35mm sensor.
The new sensor has 40 times the area of the 35mm sensor and has a side dimension of 202×205mm (8"×8"). Canon says the sensor "can shoot in 1/100 of the light required by a professional DSLR camera."
Of course, like the 120 megapixel sensor, we don't expect this sensor to appear in the next DSLR camera just yet. For now, launching such products may have more bragging rights.
