In order to start a new life, Xiaojun wanted to end this transnational marriage, but Linda was nowhere to be found. Helplessly, Xiaojun filed a lawsuit with the Jiang'an District Court, requesting the dissolution of the marriage.
After accepting the case, the court made multiple attempts to contact Linda but failed, so it proceeded with public announcement delivery. After the announcement period expired, on April 13th of this year, the court conducted an ex parte trial and issued an ex parte judgment granting Xiaojun's divorce from Linda. Currently, the judgment is still in the announcement period, and if the 6-month period expires without any response, it will be considered served, allowing Xiaojun to regain his freedom. (Reported by Zhao Wen, communicated by Feng Weichun, interns Jiang Min and Liu Ying) Jingchu.com message (Chutian Golden Newspaper): A man from Wuhan named Xiaojun met an American woman online. After a year of online dating, they eventually entered into a transnational marriage. However, just one week after their marriage, Xiaojun's American wife suddenly returned to her home country and has been out of touch ever since. Yesterday, I learned from the Jiang'an Court that, after 9 years, the court made a first-instance ruling granting the man a divorce from his American wife.
In the year 2000, Xiaojun met a 20-year-old American girl named Linda online, and the two quickly fell in love. A year later, Linda came to Wuhan to meet Xiaojun, and on September 10th, 2001, they got married in Wuhan in a flash. However, just a week later, before they had even held a wedding ceremony, Linda suddenly returned to the U.S., disappearing without a trace ever since.
Xiaojun did not give up on this hard-earned marriage easily and tried to find information about his newlywed wife, but all efforts were in vain. Seven years passed, and Xiaojun, now over thirty, still had no news of his wife. It wasn't until early 2008 that Xiaojun finally indirectly obtained Linda's address in the U.S. through other channels, rekindling his hopes. But when Xiaojun contacted her via the address provided, he was told that Linda had already moved away, with her whereabouts unknown. At this point, feeling utterly disheartened, Xiaojun began to reflect on the rashness of his marriage with Linda. Moreover, due to their long-term separation after marriage, their marital relationship existed in name only.
Postscript: Transnational marriages may look beautiful at first glance. However, different countries have different cultural customs. Without deep understanding and communication, as well as mental preparation, the fruits of such unions might not always be palatable. Young friends, marriage should still be approached with caution.
