He is from Fuqing, Fujian. He accumulated a wealth of hundreds of millions by the age of thirty through construction projects and real estate development; but due to gambling addiction, he squandered all his fortune and became penniless. On the evening of August 6th last year, he was stabbed to death, leaving behind many mysteries... Recently, the mystery of the death of this billionaire in Xiamen has finally been revealed.
On the night of August 6th, 2007 at 11:34 PM, under the cover of darkness in the streets of Xiamen, an urgent call came into the criminal investigation team of Huli district: "A man was stabbed and died on the way to the hospital due to excessive blood loss." The police immediately rushed to the scene.
The middle-aged victim had knife wounds on his thigh, and there were no identity documents on him. However, what shocked the police was that there was a dropped waist bag at the scene, inside which was a concealed handgun. After reviewing a large amount of surveillance footage, the police discovered that the waist bag had been carried with the deceased all along. "At that time, there was a guess that the murderer and the victim were likely acquaintances; otherwise, how could someone stand still with a gun and let another stab their thigh," said an informed person.
The police quickly identified the victim: he was a real estate developer with significant status and influence in Xiamen named Mr. Weng. This real estate developer was already a famous billionaire in the 1990s and had very complex interpersonal relationships.
Who could have done it?
In subsequent extensive investigations, the police learned that at around 6 PM on the day of the incident, a mysterious black-clad man was waiting for someone at the Luhui Building teahouse. Meanwhile, Mr. Weng, who was having dinner with friends, received a call. The person on the other end of the line asked him to meet at the teahouse an hour later.
More than three hours later, Mr. Weng arrived. He walked closely with the black-clad man, conversing amicably and laughing. They talked for over twenty minutes. At 10:28 PM, they went together to a sauna; around 11 PM, they walked out of the Luhui Building.
Surveillance footage showed that an argument broke out between them at the entrance. A second black-clad man suddenly appeared from across the street, and the two men jointly assaulted the victim. Soon after, one of them stabbed the victim, then both fled the scene. "The entire process took less than a minute," remarked a police officer, indicating that the murderers' methods were highly professional.
Two people who seemed like good friends walking out of the building suddenly turned on each other.
The two suspects were arrested
According to relevant personnel, the man who called Mr. Weng that evening had an accent from another region.
Based on the direction the two men fled after committing the crime, the police officers narrowed down their investigation to nearby hotels and apartments. Three days after the incident, the police obtained an important clue: the black-clad man was staying temporarily at a hotel-style apartment on Hubin North Road. His name on the check-out form was "A Peng."
The investigation began with A Peng. His real name was Huang Mou, from Youyang County, Chongqing. They also discovered that Huang Mou had fled to the Shanghai area.
The police found out that Huang Mou was merely acting as a henchman, while the mastermind behind the scenes was Liu Mou, known as "Li Ge", who had fled to Suzhou. On the afternoon of August 11th, 2007, Liu Mou and Huang Mou were almost simultaneously apprehended.
Failure to repay debts led to his demise
It was introduced that Liu Mou had been lending high-interest loans in Macau for a long time. In 2006, Weng Mou went to Macau to gamble extravagantly and borrowed 1 million yuan in high-interest loans from him in an attempt to recoup his losses, only to lose everything. Not long after returning to Xiamen, Weng Mou began being pursued by "Li Ge" and his henchman A Peng for repayment. Weng Mou managed to gather 400,000 yuan to repay, but the remaining 600,000 yuan remained unsettled.
As days passed, seeing that Weng Mou had no intention of repaying the remaining debt, "Li Ge" flew to the mainland to collect the debt.
Huang Mou recounted that on the day of the incident, he and Weng Mou met at the teahouse for negotiations. Huang Mou even brought along two companions, intending to threaten Weng Mou. Unexpectedly, Weng Mou suddenly pulled out a handgun from his bag and brandished it. Huang Mou and his companions were momentarily stunned. Subsequently, the two went to take a sauna, but upon exiting, they argued again. At this point, Huang Mou's companion attacked Weng Mou. Fearing that Weng Mou might use the gun, Huang Mou hastily drew his knife and stabbed Weng Mou's thigh hard.
The downfall of a billionaire
As the police unraveled the case, the trajectory of the downfall of this once-renowned billionaire came to light.
People within the circle told reporters that Weng Mou from Fuqing used to be incredibly successful in Xiamen: "Engaging in construction projects and building skyscrapers, he was extremely decisive. By the 1990s, his assets were already worth hundreds of millions."
The Xiamen police also confirmed Weng Mou's former billionaire status.
It was introduced that after achieving success in his career, Weng Mou seemed to become more ostentatious, even frequenting teahouses and karaoke lounges. "His decline truly began in 2000 when he became addicted to gambling," recalled a friend of Weng Mou.
In just three short years, this once-glorious billionaire lost everything, not only squandering hundreds of millions in cash but also leading to the bankruptcy of his company. He sold his house, had nowhere to live, and had to rely on the charity of friends to survive.
