The doctor from the outpatient department of Jinhua People's Hospital introduced that among the several patients they saved, their injuries were quite serious. One rescued survivor suffered from extensive thigh tears and had very unstable vital signs.
According to the police, the driver involved in the incident was not under police control. Witnesses stated that the light truck driver was not a local villager and surnamed Xing. At the time, Xing was driving an empty truck back toward Jinhua. When passing through the accident-prone section, there were parked vehicles on the side of the road. Possibly unable to avoid them in time, the small truck successively collided with two tricycles, an electric bicycle, and a motorcycle.
2 people died at the scene, and over 10 others were injured.
"Fortunately, I missed death by just a little bit," said Ms. Shao, lying in her hospital bed with a thigh injury, as she continued to shed tears. However, from her painful expression, it was evident that the sorrow of her heart outweighed the physical pain. "I was out buying noodles last night. Before I could walk far, I was hit, and no one reacted in time."
Mr. Fang, who ran a meat stall outside the market, recounted: "My wife and I were selling meat when we heard vehicle collision sounds from the roadside. Not knowing what was happening, we pushed our children aside. We hadn’t even stabilized ourselves when a small truck passed between us."
"My wife was terrified and is now too scared to come out again," said a tofu seller from the market whose wife surnames Zhou.
The incident occurred on Xingqiao South Street in the village outside the bridge. On the west side of the street was a makeshift rural market, covering an area of about 60 square meters. The scene before the incident was still chaotic: vegetables, bloodstains, shoes, all seemed to be recounting the horrific moment that happened just a few hours ago.
The tofu-selling elder was so frightened that he returned home.
"The driver fled, probably scared," said a bystander, noting that after the car stopped, the driver got out and ran away.
The cause of the accident is still under further investigation.
People buying and selling vegetables quickly joined the rescue efforts. Officers from the nearby police station also rushed to the scene for assistance. They used crowbars to pry open the precast boards and collectively pulled the large truck forward slightly to rescue the injured individuals trapped on the roof.
According to Mr. Fang, "Those who narrowly avoided being hit were all run over by the wheels." He added, "I saw that someone was crushed on top of the truck, and an electric scooter was also stuck underneath."
The cause of the accident is currently under further investigation.
"At the scene, a female vegetable vendor and a male customer were severely injured and did not survive on the spot," Mr. Fang said. Other injured individuals were taken to hospitals in the urban area for emergency treatment.
"A sharp curve near the intersection, approximately an 80-degree bend, and this section of the road was slightly uphill. The large truck driver approached this area, which was an uphill and a sharp bend. For unknown reasons, the truck, as if controlled by someone, first hit a man and a child. The vehicle didn't stop but continued colliding and eventually broke through the road, crashing into the wall next to the market before stopping," said Li, a bystander. There was also a long brake mark at the scene.
At this moment, people began to realize the severity of the situation, and many started shouting, "Rescue! Rescue!"
Around 6:20 PM, for the residents of Qiaomian Village in Chijin Town, Jinxi District, Jinhua City, it turned into a nightmare they would rather forget. By the time the reporter finished writing, the police revealed that the incident had resulted in four deaths.
