The 2010 China Xu Xiake International Tourism Festival, jointly organized by Kunming City and Jiangyin City of Jiangsu Province, will hold its opening ceremony in Jiangyin next Monday (March 29), and the closing ceremony will be held on May 3 during the Kunming International Tourism Carnival Festival. This cooperative approach between two locations to invigorate the tourism market will become a new model in the tourism industry, as they say "opening in Jiangyin, closing in Kunming." During the tourism festival, there will be a tree-planting memorial ceremony for the Xu Xiake Alliance; performances by the "Colorful Yunnan" ethnic song and dance troupe; special exhibitions on Yunnan's folk customs; and recommendations for characteristic Kunming tourist routes. The reason for this special co-hosting model lies in history: Jiangyin is the hometown of Xu Xiake, who entered the mountains and waters of Yunnan in 1638. In the following year and nine months, he used Kunming as his base, traveling in and out three times to explore Yunnan.
