When will the "difficulty in parking" be alleviated?

Nowadays, more and more citizens own their private cars. However, with the large increase in the number of private cars, the number of parking lots in the city has been far from meeting the needs of citizens for parking. The call for increasing the number of urban parking lots is getting stronger and stronger. But is the problem simply due to a lack of parking lots?

Narration: The first day of the New Year sees many citizens choosing to drive their private cars out shopping. They thought having a car would make shopping more convenient, but many citizens found that there was nowhere to park. Especially on Jianguo Central Road, helplessly, many citizens had to park on the motor vehicle lane. (Traffic police issuing tickets)

Narration: What causes the citizens to have nowhere to park? Through investigation, the reporter discovered that the main reason is the scarcity of parking lots.

Synchronized sound: Traffic Police - There are very few parking lots from Dama Horse to Yushi Mouth; they can probably accommodate only over a hundred cars. A parking lot manager (Can it hold about 30 cars?) Hmm, around thirty or forty cars.

Narration: It turns out that in our urban area, apart from a few large malls like Times Square, Commercial Building, and Wenfeng World which have parking lots, it's basically hard to find places where you can park legally. However, this area is precisely the commercial hub of our city center, with high pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Due to the already established layout of the old urban area, building public parking lots based on the existing structure is not an easy task. Therefore, this requires the designers from our City Planning Bureau to solve the problems for private car owners.

Synchronized sound: Chief Designer of the Planning Room at the City Planning Bureau - We are preparing to do a comprehensive traffic plan concerning the parking issue. However, one thing is certain, you cannot endlessly meet the demand for parking, otherwise, the gap will keep widening immediately.

Narration: Indeed, citizens now face parking difficulties, which on the surface seem to be due to the shortage of parking lots, but this is only one aspect of the problem. Looking across our city, compared to before, many new parking lots have been built, especially some underground parking lots which have largely met the parking needs of many citizens. However, with the rapid economic development, the development of parking lots has lagged far behind the development speed of private cars. Then, why not limit the development speed of private cars to free up limited urban space?

Synchronized sound: Chief Designer of the Planning Room at the City Planning Bureau - Our country’s current policy is to restrict the development of small cars. If you create better conditions in all aspects now, then small cars will develop faster. Your city size is just so big; you need to meet basic parking demands without overdeveloping.

Narration: Whether planning and constructing more parking lots or restricting the development of private cars, neither can be accomplished overnight. Moreover, with the Spring Festival approaching, another peak parking period is coming. How should we respond? Those who own cars might try taking public buses once, and perhaps you'll gain more convenience.

Tonight's Commentary: Perfecting Urban Planning, Advocating Green Travel

Since urban planning and construction cannot be completed overnight, the problem of "difficulty in parking" will still exist in the short term. However, with the southward shift of the urban center, increasingly rational urban planning, and population moving outward from the city, the problem of difficulty in parking will get some relief. At the same time, with the continuous improvement of our city's public transportation system, we advocate that citizens use public transportation more often when going out, promoting green travel, which not only alleviates the traffic pressure in the urban area but also contributes to the urban environment.
