Xia Lihui: Dear audience, welcome to the Two Sessions Press Conference Room. Vigorously promoting new industrialization is a major measure in our city's economic construction. Today we have invited three members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and National People's Congress deputies to talk about the new industrialization. Let me introduce them to you: NPC Deputy Lu Anjie, Chairman of Jiangsu Feichi Co., Ltd.; CPPCC Member Zou Yishi, Deputy Director of the City Science and Technology Bureau; and CPPCC Member Zhao Yazhou, General Manager of Yancheng Chongbei Group.
Xia Lihui: Welcome, all three of you. Now, why do we bring up the topic of new industrialization? It differs from traditional industrialization. I would like to ask each of you, what does this "new" in new industrialization mean to you, and where exactly is it reflected?
CPPCC Member Zou Yishi: In my opinion, new industrialization must have a sense of independent innovation, products that are independently innovated, and industries that are independently innovated. Moreover, apart from this, new industrialization should also be reflected in a new industrial structure, one that has high-tech content replacing the traditional industrial structure. Products should also be new; if they aren't, they remain traditional products that don't meet market demands and must be eliminated.
CPPCC Member Zhao Yazhou: We need to adhere to the scientific development concept, align with the spirit of the Central Economic Work Conference, emphasize energy conservation and emissions reduction, and then there is technological innovation, which I think is very important.
NPC Deputy Lu Anjie: From the perspective of our enterprise, new industrialization requires us to shift from the traditional extensive growth model to a conservation-oriented one, making our product development and enterprise development transition from the original scale-benefit type to the current technology-benefit type, thereby reflecting the essence of new industrialization.
Xia Lihui: I know that your company has a product called the giant tire. Is this a very innovative product?
NPC Deputy Lu Anjie: Our Feichi Company has recently developed a giant engineering tire. A single tire weighs nearly 3 tons and has a height diameter of 3.6 meters. This product is currently the largest tire domestically. Our giant engineering tire has high-tech content, owns more than a dozen invention patents, and due to this product, we lead the industry and promote the higher-level development of Feichi.
Xia Lihui: Can beer be as innovative as tires?
CPPCC Member Zhao Yazhou: Beer is a traditional industry. Adding the latest scientific research technology to traditional manufacturing can make a difference. For example, I am currently studying how to use DNA composite scanning technology to quickly detect pollution microorganisms in beer. This research is highly meaningful. For instance, the cleaning and sterilization cost per ton of beer in our country is 25 yuan. With 40 million tons of beer produced annually, that’s 1 billion yuan spent on cleaning. After my research is successful, the cleaning cost per ton of beer will only be 10 yuan, saving 400 million yuan.
Xia Lihui: During the development of your two enterprises, there may be some commonalities. What do you think these commonalities reflect in terms of new industrialization?
CPPCC Member Zhao Yazhou: One is product innovation, and the other is management innovation.
NPC Deputy Lu Anjie: From the perspective of our enterprise, I feel that increasing scientific and technological investment, enhancing our enterprise's scientific and technological innovation capabilities, and cultivating our enterprise's core competitiveness are key points that we must focus on to follow the path of new industrialization. The continuous development of our Feichi Company is due to our increased scientific and technological investment in product development, which is a very successful experience.
CPPCC Member Zou Yishi: I would like to add one point. In addition to corporate independent innovation, from the perspective of science and technology, we must pay attention to another very important task, which is the issue of local industrial innovation.
Xia Lihui: Regarding new industrialization, we conducted some street interviews. Let's take a look.
Citizen: Yancheng's industrial foundation is relatively weak. There is only one automobile enterprise. Currently, it is doing well, but we cannot rely solely on this one.
Citizen: Yancheng currently doesn't have many brands with significant recognition. Without big brands at the national level, Yancheng won't gain fame or improve its status.
Citizen: Yancheng currently lacks high-tech enterprises, and within these high-tech enterprises, there is a shortage of top technical talent.
Xia Lihui: Alright, this was our interview. I wonder what thoughts you all have after watching it.
NPC Deputy Lu Anjie: They spoke very simply, but they hit the nail on the head. New industrialization must be implemented in the products.
Xia Lihui: Just now, one citizen mentioned that Yancheng lacks particularly good and famous brands. I know Feichi is now a national brand. What methods do you have regarding brand building?
NPC Deputy Lu Anjie: I believe what he said is very important. For our local economy, a company's brand product is also a place's business card. We at Feichi Company regard creating a Chinese brand and building a Chinese brand as an important task for promoting our rapid and good development.
CPPCC Member Zhao Yazhou: I deeply understand that without brand support, the development of a local economy is impossible. This is true for any economically developed country internationally. The brand we've launched is Tianmu Lake Beer, which is currently a well-known trademark and a Jiangsu Province Brand. In 2008, we plan to apply for a China Famous Brand.
CPPCC Member Zou Yishi: Both managers just talked about tangible brands, such as famous trademarks and tangible products. I believe behind these two tangible brands, there is an even more crucial intangible brand—high-tech enterprises supporting them. Therefore, their products are all high-tech products. I suggest that all enterprises in Yancheng City should seriously create high-tech enterprises and high-tech products. This is the real brand, a brand that ensures sustainable development.
Xia Lihui: To achieve this, I think we still need to put a lot of effort into introducing and cultivating many high-tech talents.
CPPCC Member Zou Yishi: Our science and technology department plans to introduce 100 high-tech projects in 2008 and attract more than 100 postgraduate experts and academicians.
Xia Lihui: Finally, I would like to ask each of you for some suggestions on the development of Yancheng's new industrialization.
CPPCC Member Zhao Yazhou: I think for the development of Yancheng's economy, first, we need to build Yancheng's brand, play our service card well, and make Yancheng's investment brand known. Yancheng is the best investment lowland. Once this brand is established, more companies, including the world's top 500 and China's top 500, will come here, and Yancheng's tomorrow will be better.
CPPCC Member Zou Yishi: To walk the road of new industrialization, we must first transform traditional industries, create our own special industries, and also have emerging industries leading the future to support and develop it.
NPC Deputy Lu Anjie: We must definitely take the path of environmental protection and green development, focusing on energy conservation and emission reduction work. Only by protecting the environment can we ensure that our new industrialization develops both rapidly and sustainably.
Xia Lihui: Thank you all three. For Yancheng's economy to develop both rapidly and sustainably, we must firmly grasp the "new" in new industrialization. This is very important. With new concepts, new ideas, and new methods, and seizing new opportunities, our development will surely become newer, faster, and better.
