A scar as small as a soybean became as large as a palm after being cut.
Mr. Zhang from Jiangdong once had a small scar on his chest about the size of a soybean due to a mosquito bite several years ago. Initially, Mr. Zhang didn't pay much attention to it, but later, the scar area started to itch frequently. A friend of his who was an internal medicine doctor enthusiastically helped him cut the scar out. Unexpectedly, within half a year, not only did a scar the size of a thumb grow back in the original spot, but the itching became even worse. Another doctor friend of Mr. Zhang's was also very enthusiastic and performed another surgery for him. Dr. Wang Jinhuan warned that actually, scars in some parts of the body should not be removed, such as those on the chest. Various "scar removal advertisements" can dazzle people, some claiming miraculous effects with just a swipe, others saying a single injection does the trick, each sounding incredibly effective. Dr. Wang Jinhuang said that in reality, scar removal is a highly specialized technique. Without specific plastic surgery skills, it is difficult to achieve satisfactory results, let alone at street-side clinics.
"I treated a patient surnamed Zhang, who had a scar on his chest that would itch and hurt constantly, especially at night when he slept in a warm blanket or after drinking alcohol or eating spicy, stimulating foods. When the body heats up, the discomfort from the scar becomes more obvious," Dr. Wang Jinhuan said. As a result, Mr. Zhang went to the doctor multiple times for examinations but found nothing wrong. Later, Mr. Zhang went to a nearby large clinic for "scar injections," but there was no effect at all. This made Mr. Zhang even more anxious, to the point of losing sleep and appetite. Eventually, Mr. Zhang's family brought him to the Beauty Department of Zhujiang Hospital. After a few rounds of injections, the scar stopped growing and began to soften.
In fact, Mr. Zhang suffered from hypertrophic scars, which indeed cause itching and pain, especially when the skin is stimulated. The treatment prescribed by the doctor involved injecting corticosteroids into the scar. Dr. Wang Jinhuan said that although "scar injections" seem simple, the location must be precise. If administered by experienced plastic surgeons, the injections generally alleviate itching, pain, and stop further growth within two to three days. However, seeking help from unqualified doctors will definitely result in suboptimal outcomes.
