Hitachi recently released a new identity recognition system called "finger vein money", which identifies individuals by distinguishing the vein patterns beneath the skin of a person's finger. In the future, it will mainly be used in personal payment fields.
Like fingerprints, the vein patterns of people are all different, and no two people have the same vein arrangement. Hitachi’s system utilizes this difference; by inserting your finger into a compact recognizer, an infrared camera will capture the vein pattern of your finger and compare it with the database to confirm your identity. When shopping, the system can automatically deduct the payment from your account to complete the transaction.
