The next generation of chipsets will strongly promote the support for DDR3 memory, including Intel's new 3 series chipsets, which will fully support DDR3 memory. DDR3 has a lower operating voltage compared to DDR2, decreasing from 1.8V to 1.5V, offering better performance and power savings; it also upgrades from 4bit in DDR2 to 8bit. Currently, DDR3 can reach up to 1600Mhz. Since the fastest DDR2 memory speed has been increased to 800Mhz/1066Mhz, the first batch of DDR3 memory modules will start at 1333Mhz.
