When comparing widescreen to regular screens, there is a surprising discovery.

It has been more than two years since the rise of wide-screen laptops. A wide-screen laptop is one whose LCD screen has an aspect ratio of 16:9, as opposed to the traditional notebook's LCD screen aspect ratio of 4:3.

When wide-screens were first introduced, they were claimed to solve the problem of having black bars at the top and bottom when watching wide-screen movies on a notebook, making them suitable for home entertainment.

................................

We found that for the same 14.1-inch LCD display, the effective viewing area of a wide-screen is reduced by more than 10 inches compared to a traditional screen, with a proportion exceeding one-tenth.

This means that a single LCD panel can be cut into many more wide-screens than traditional screens, so the cost spent on the display by the display manufacturers and notebook manufacturers is much less for wide-screens than for traditional screens.
