At GDC 2009, ARM announced that they would release mobile graphics chips with XBOX-level 3D processing capabilities. The new chips come in two models: Mali-200 and Mali-400. Both support OpenGL ES2.0 and programmable renderers, enabling complex visual effects. The Mali-200 is aimed at the mid-range market and can render 16 million triangles per second, which is sufficient to drive Flash and more advanced Java applications. The Mali-400 supports up to four GPU cores and can handle 1080p video and more popular 3D effects. ARM will demonstrate the original Xbox version of Project Gotham Racing running on a mobile phone. ARM also claims that this chip can actually achieve more effects similar to those of the XBOX 360.
