Samsung 18K Gold YP-Z5 Shines Brightly on the Market

Glistening, shiny electronic products aren't rare - especially when it's a commemorative occasion for something or other. Today's star is the Samsung Yepp YP-Z5 MP3 player, and they do have reason to celebrate: the YP-Z5 has reached a grand sales milestone of one million units.

Ten YP-Z5s received the special honor of being dipped in gold soup, and are autographed by interface designer Paul Mercer on the back (he's the same guy who designed the iPod interface, but later defected to Samsung), all housed in boxes similarly adorned with gold foil.

According to Samsung's announced price, these golden gizmos cost no less than 120,000 yen each.
